Unless people are killed, it's not a real rivalry.
That's not as far from the truth and you're trying to suggest.

There's zero passion or real bad blood in sports rivalries in Australia, and Matt Nable doing one of his nauseating voice overs about it won't change that.

Absolutely, that's just what is missing from Australian culture, people, hating and assaulting and killing each other over a game.

That's the Australian way, and why your definition of rivarly is cooked.

I think what you're really trying to say is that you don't care about or have any ties to Queensland RL.

The thing about rivalries is that they're only as good as the teams are at the time. The Souffs vs Roosters rivalry was dead in the water when Souffs were rubbish and nobody has ever really cared about Cronulla vs St Merge because they've not both been good at the same time for any length of time. Cowboys vs Broncos only really got significant buy-in outside Cowboys fans when the 2 teams were genuinely competitive. Manly vs Melbourne has stayed strong but it's only about 15 years old and Melbourne have been at the top for most of that while Manly haven't dropped away for more than a year or 2 at a time. Also, rivalries come about because of history, they can't be synthesised. Nobody would have picked Manly and Melbourne to be rivals, it just came about through the course of history, it's what gives the players, the clubs and the fans something to actually care about, not just the other team is close to us.

He says all Australian Sports rivalries have zero passion or bad blood and to be honest apart from a few he's right, it has nothing to do with Queensland RL, it's the same with many NSW teams as well, like Cronulla/St George is a rivalry apparently but who views that as a Derby? The Bulldogs and Roosters apparently have a rivalry also but as a Roosters fan for 20+ years I've never cared about the Dogs or seen them as a rival.

It's a shit take.

Because people aren't being kerb stomped it's not a 'rivalry'?

Also Dogs/Chooks wouldn't be mentioned in the top 30 rivalries in Australian sports. I've never heard it mentioned as this in over 40 years.

The addition of the dolphins is causing a boom in qld rugby league
A couple of other things it is doing which won't be evident for years to come...

It is making expansion difficult for the other two codes. For years the Lions and Reds basked in the fact that RL ridiculously only had one team in Brisbane and two in SEQ, our game's second biggest heartland. The Dolphins and later on down the track the Jets (along with Broncos, Cowboys and Titans) will suck the life out of any chance of other codes growing significantly in SEQ.

Sure the Reds and Lions will still have a following, but neither code will be in a position to successfully introduce another team. NRL will saturate the media attention, Suncorp will be rocking every week, sometimes twice a week it will be relentless and should have happened a long time ago.

They’re rivalries not derbies.
Derbies are teams in same city or at least close by who hate each other.
broncos and dolphins has potential.

don’t mind the hype, makes the game bigger.

I don’t think union and afl could’ve expanded anyway both are struggling big time in qld

Agree and disagree with this.

The only “real” derby in super league would be the hull derby but Wigan v St Helens and Leeds v Bradford(when in SL) were/are also classed as derbies.

same in football for the premier league with liverpool V Everton or Man Utd v Man City being derbies while Liverpool v Man Utd or Man Utd v Leeds Utd are rivalries.
