I would like to see the Bears back but how many name changes do the Gold Coast need to "reinvent themselves" again and again?

The Bears are traditionally North Sydney, if they go to the Gold Coast, they cant claim the Central Coast as their territory anymore.
Its Gold Coast, plus the odd game at NSO for heritage value.

There's never going to be another Sydney team and the NRL are not likely to go through replacing one with another as they don't need the headache. If the bears are determined to return to the NRL then this looks like their only option as expansion could be a life time away.

The Central Coast bid back in 05-06 was vastly superior to the Titans. But no bastard would listen back then.

The NRL is a joke. The worst run sporting organisation in the world for decades.

Will they even be allowed to use the Bears logo? They weren't allowed to use the Dolphins mascot because of the Sunshine Coast. Will Burleigh be more accommodating?

They weren't allowed to use the Dolphins name because of Redcliffe.

THE North Sydney Bears are set for a shock return to top flight football ? via the Gold Coast.

RLW*has learned that there are moves for the Bears to buy out the struggling Titans franchise ? and rename the team the Gold Coast Bears.

The team will continue to play out of the Gold Coast, but may also take several games a season to the Bears? home base on the NSW Central Coast.

The Titans went into voluntary administration last year and the club is currently being administered by the NRL.

The NRL would love for someone to take over the running of the team, and the Bears ? who last played in the big league in 1999 ? are keen to take up the challenge.

Officials are remaining tight-lipped about the takeover but top secret moves are underway behind the scenes.

The Titans will remain as they are for this season, but could well be known as the Gold Coast Bears by next season.

The Bears already have a presence on the Gold Coast, with the massive Seagulls Leagues Club in Tweed Heads owned by North Sydney Leagues Club, whose finances keep the Bears alive.

North Sydney still have a team in the NSW Cup and teams at junior level, but died as a top grade club after an ill-fated venture with Manly ? known as the Northern Eagles ? collapsed in 2002.

The NRL is keen to see top class league on the NSW Central Coast ? a massive growth area ? and the return of the Bears would be the first step towards this.

Playing on the central Coast? Wouldn't that mean that the Sydney area still has 10 teams?

This. They can't completely relocate in order to get their team back then still claim the area they never fielded a top grade team in.

Not saying I'm at all with this idea but if it did happen best case scenario would be playing all games in Gold Coast besides 1, maximum 2 a year at North Sydney Oval. A Sydney based membership with tickets to away games and an annual NSO game should satisfy any old North Sydney fans that come out of the woodwork.

Ideally a Sydney team would adopt the Central Coast and play 4-6 games a year there.

You'd think long term the Bears would be trying to bring the "franchise" back to NSW and the CC. Hope they do it. Gold Coast is a waste of space

It'd be nice for someone competent to take over the Titans but I fail to see how it means jack shit to many old Norths fans if a team called the Gold Coast Bears is created up there. I guess they could have a medium term vision of moving the license down to Central Coast
