Don't know if it matters in the bigger picture, but the Burleigh Bears are already one of the feeder clubs for the Titans, so maybe it makes sense to become Gold Coast Bears. Just had a quick look at Burleigh website, and apparantly existed since 1934 so must be some local brand identity and hopefully more local support if the Tits go down this path.

Titans need to adopt a name that aligns with the Melbourne Storm, that way each team has a mascot counterpart.

In the spirit of that idea, I would suggest The GC Blows.... it just works on so many levels.

Hi, it's been a productive few years away from this fantastic site. We shall see how this unfolds

Hope you don't mean productive as in productive for the Bears bid, a name change is hardly getting your tradition and heritage back on your own terms.

It is amazing what one tweet from some unknown can generate in this day and age of instant media. I see RLW are now running the non-story!

Well usually when a rumour like this pops up all parties involved will either ignore it or shut down the rumour with a statement to the media.
The fact that the media statements from the nrl and the Titans didn't shut it down, and in fact talked about the possibilities of such a takeover happening, means that this 'non-story' might actually have some legs

I fail to see how a name change will solve the Titans' problems. New management which is already happening and a new/cheaper stadium deal.

Having Bears as the mascot and, God forbid, games also played on the Central Coast or NSO, won't solve anything.

The club might then mean something to League supporters and More Importantly sponsors. It can only be a positive for the shit club , i would even start to care how they go, because currently it is a souless wreck with no support from anyone :(

So Titans hasn't worked... And Bears will not work. Maybe in 2007 they should have put in the Wellington Orcas instead...

I'll believe it when it happens.

And if it does, they have to play at NSO occasionally too.
Yeah, I'm pretty sceptical of this happening.

Also, trial game at NSO, but not regular season. Don't think it's adequete any more (as much as I would love it). Any trial at NSO I'd be at with bells on.

I think this is untrue though

I agree. Having a set amount of games at the CC or NSO is just crap that you'd expect from the GWS Giants.

Most Sydney teams have a set amount of games they take to other places. Souths always have a Perth game, other teams like Parra also take some games away. Why would you take advantage of the branding and all the history comes with it. If they play their cards right they could get thousands of members just from a game at Gosford and a game at NSO against teams that resonate most in those areas.

Play Newcastle and Manly at Gosford, play Souths at NSO and you've got 3 sellouts. That's still 9 games at the Gold Coast. Their average crowds and memberships will be climbing very quickly.

South Queensland Bears?
50-50 split between Suncorp and Robina?

Gives Brisbane an extra 6 games, satisfies the broadcasters desire for another team in the Brisbane market, would hopefully increase demand for tickets to Robina games, massive potential catchment area.

It's a possibility, but at the same time, the Titans struggle for support as it is let alone making their 20 or so fans travel further for home games. If Robina looks and feels empty for the Titans, what is Suncorp going to look and feel like?

Having said that, it would be interesting to see them take another game there (not agaist Broncos/Cowboys) just to see what sort of base support they get.

The two rumours going the rounds is one of the directors on the Titsns board wants the GC licence but he can't do it on his own, and needs others. The other is the Bears.

if this gold coast bears thing happens, the gold coast titans club should just fold and the bears should run it all, so basically it's just a relocation for the bears, and a continuation of the bears records, and the colours would be red and black. souths play 2 games out of state, so there's no reason why the bears couldn't play a game in gosford and a game at north sydney oval every year, with the north sydney oval game being played in heritage round. there is obviously not enough of the gold coast public supporting the titans, so maybe they would support a club with more history, and it sounds like the bears are making a lot of money with the leagues club up there, so that could help them make it a strong team

If no-one on the Gold Coast cares about their own team why would they bother with a transplanted team?

Terrible idea

The GC is a hole, let's just fill it in
