Personally I think this idea has a lot of merit. The Titans get about 20 people to a game and the brand is performing poorly only making the finals twice in their existence.

I think adopting a similar structure with what GWS have done in the AFL with Canberra is the way to go. Expands the clubs junior development and supporter base.

Play 8 home games on the GC and 4 on the Central Coast. That is two huge junior bases for the club to build off and develop.

Then expand the comp in 5 years or so and have a team in Perth and another team in Brisbane.

It'd be nice for someone competent to take over the Titans but I fail to see how it means jack shit to many old Norths fans if a team called the Gold Coast Bears is created up there. I guess they could have a medium term vision of moving the license down to Central Coast

Any idea of them buying with an outlook of moving the team from QLD to NSW should be squashed by the NRL quick smart. Still maintain it's a backwards idea but if it does happen 1, maximum 2 home games moved from Gold Coast to NSO.

How about just f**k the Gold Coast off move it to Brisbane and call it's the Brisbane Bears? Or would that answer just be to simple?

I don't see any reason why they can't buy the license and then forget about the Gold Coast completely. Play all but 4 home games out of the Central Coast. 2 at NSO and 2 on the Gold Coast.

North Coast Bears.

There's never going to be another Sydney based side. The NRL needs to englarge its footprint not shrink it. I know I said move it to Brisbane which would shrink it slightly, but still keep 3 teams in QLD.

Gold coast bears does make sense

Play in red and black can train at seagulls at tweed heads where the lc is

Play 2 games a year at NSO

Reverse somewhat the biggest injustice in nrl ever

Bring in all the old bears to help coach

Do you really think the NRL would just let them do whatever they like with the license?

NSW does not need another team or more games. QLD does not need less teams or less games, end of.

Seagulls were the original holders of the GC licence

They should just request to get it back

Looks like its only way the Bears are going to get a team now. Something is better than nothing I suppose.

This. They can't completely relocate in order to get their team back then still claim the area they never fielded a top grade team in.

Not saying I'm at all with this idea but if it did happen best case scenario would be playing all games in Gold Coast besides 1, maximum 2 a year at North Sydney Oval. A Sydney based membership with tickets to away games and an annual NSO game should satisfy any old North Sydney fans that come out of the woodwork.

Ideally a Sydney team would adopt the Central Coast and play 4-6 games a year there.

If the team has roots to the old NS Bears then there shouldn't be an issue with a home game at NSO or Gosford (alternating each year). Offering an away Sydney membership would be a no brainer also.

I thought the Roosters were looking at the CC to adopt, they could play their game against the Bears at Gosford

Why don't the NRL and Fox/Nine do a reality show called Who Wants A NRL Licence?

It could go for six-eight months about how a team will:

* get sponsors, and who they could be.
* what players they could target; potential captain/marquee player(s)
* junior development.
* how they will raise revenue to fund their expansion side for the next 10 years.
* how they will merchandise, market their team, the code, the region.
* their home ground.
* their logo.
* select their mascot.
* their team colours.
* their team song.
* their uniform designs.
* how they will galvanise local support behind the new bid/team.
* how they will galvanise council, state and federal support behind the new bid/team.

Cap it at six-eight entrants, so Adelaide, Perth, Central Coast, NZ 2, NZ 3, PNG, Central Qld, Brisbane 2, Western Brisbane etc.

The grand prize is $10-20 million and the 17th NRL Licence which announced on Grand Final evening.

Then they could do series 2 2 years later for the 18th team.

holy shit! that's an amazing idea. the show would give the new team a great amount of coverage and generate a lot of new fans. the NRL would never take a 'leap' like that though.

COME ON NRL!! do something new and interesting

Sounds a lot like a show the afl tried to do a few years ago. Only difference was the team was being set up for the vfl comp not the afl. But everything else was pretty much the same, and the show was batshit boring, not even the most brainwashed fumbleball fan would watch it

This would be a great move for the NRL. Let's be honest. The 'Titans' brand is dead. It hasn't done anything in a decade. It's a lame logo. The colors are ugly.

In terms of changing the colors and branding, you only stay with the status quo if the status quo is an asset, if it is working. And it clearly is not.

The red and black is much more attractive than that ugly aqua/white/yellow set up.

The Gold Coast Bears would be excellent, play 2 games a year at Gosford, 1 a year at NSO. Ideally those 3 games would be against the Knights, Sea Eagles and Rabbitohs.

Hopefully the people running things at NRL HQ can see an opportunity when it presents itself and not get in their own way.

Bring on the Gold Coast Bears.

The Brisbane Lions used to be called the Brisbane Bears. Apart from it being a bit strange considering it used to be an AFL team, I'm sure there would be some roadblock preventing that from happening anyway.

I know they were called the Brisbane Bears, but that was 20 years ago.

Gold Coast really should a maritime sounding mascot, or something different like the Gold Coast Keys, Gold Coast Glitz, etc.

Otherwise Brisbane Bears has a nice sounding alliteration to it.
