Gallan wants a new coach

Paul Gallan is pretty blunt, has suggested that interim coach Peter Sharp is not giving 100%. He also floated the idea of getting Brett Kimmorly from Canberra to coach the sharks mid year. The only problem for the Sharks is a upcoming coach to be offered only a temporary gig when the team is traveling so badly may not be such an attractive proposition. Considering if the team does not go well under their tenure, it could be a blotch on their resume.

Also the legal problems that the Sharks players/club is investigated for may make it harder to get someone to take over the reins from Sharp.

Cronulla captain Paul Gallen says it is not too late to replace interim head coach Peter Sharp with an up-and-comer for the rest of the season, arguing that players were not giving their all "because they're under the impression that Sharpie isn't putting 100 per cent in".

If they didn't stupidly extend that f**kwit Flanagan, a temporary gig right now might tempt somebody. But why would any decent coach sign on to coach a team with no chance of making the finals when he knows no matter how well he does he's got no chance of an extension.

Gallen should be more focussed on getting on the pitch regularly for the sharks and staying out of the halves way. His desire to get his hand on the ball 2 times each set contributes to just how disjointed the Sharks attack is. Beyond that, the coach might not be great, but god the Sharks players need to take a lot of the responsibility - half of them aren't worth feeding.

I posted this over in the Cronulla forums too, I think the comments by Gallen about the team not putting in because of the coach is a cop out, these guys get paid shitloads of money and if they aren't putting in 100% because they know they won't get yelled at on Monday morning then that is a f**king joke!

This is exactly why i wouldnt want Gallan in my team....

I dont care how much of a leader he is for his team, forwards should NEVER be allowed to overrule the halves and hooker. If he is the first receiver on the 4th tackle 10m out from the line, something is wrong with their structures...

He talks about the players not being scared of anyone then says rubbish like that. If anyone at Cronulla had any sort of spine they'd put him in NSW cup for a week. Right or wrong, you cannot speak about someone at your club like that. It is unprofessional.

Feel for the Sharkies being the scapegoat for ASADA. Any coach would be struggling under the circumstances.

Time for Gallen to be made captain/coach. King Wally was the last captain coach in the NRL, and if Gallen wants a statue ... well this is his opportunity to become and immortal. Take over the coaching at the Sharkies and help them scrape into the finals!

You can do it Gal! You're a legend (in your own mind).

Just another example of the massive opinion this bloke has of himself and people wonder why I give this knob heaps.

I know people love him, but seriously, STFU and play the game and air your grievances behind door...and while we're at it whos the bloke who takes a couple of months off every origin when were talking about people not putting in.,

I can see it both ways...he does not own the club but probably wishes he did.

But he is also speaking his mind...no issue with that.

The only bloke who is prepared to die for the club and has been there the longest can't say
what everyone else is thinking?

Pretty disappointing comment from the captain, he's making excuses instead of leading as a captain should. Comments like this should be behind closed doors & doesn't help the Sharks cause.

Theres no 2 ways.

Only massive f**kwits bag their coach or players in public. If you're gonna keep it real ask why Cronulla have been so shit with me as the main man and calling the shots for all of my career.

Here's the press conference of Paul Gallan and Peter Sharp last night. There does not seem to be any tension between the two- but Sharps body language does look kind of despondent and unenthused. His answers are very vague too "ummm we need everyone on the paddock" and he was asked about anyone coming back "Oh Jeff Robson will come back but I'm not holding my breath".

Maybe Gallan is right- maybe the job is becoming too much for Sharp and a change would be better for everyone involved.

He is just saying what the vast majority of fans want.

A coach who gives a shit, and will actually get rid of underperforming players rather than continually gifting them starts, and change the entire systems within the team.

Perhaps he has raised this in-house but his concerns have been blown off like Noyce has done to supporters. Noyce's comments have been more concerning for me than anything Gal has said.

Gallen's been hit in the head too many times. He clearly needs a concussion test. The club are screwed enough without him bagging off the coach through the media and saying the rest of the squad are not putting in 100%!
