Regardless of his title, Peter Sharp is a professional Rugby League Coach. The game is a results driven business, so on that basis, he should be sacked despite the extenuating circumstances.

The BOARD is to blame.

They have literally made every wrong decision in terms of managing the Club.

I blame the joke that is called ASADA. About two years ago we were told that drugs were rife throughout the sport, and hey have targeted Cronulla. And here we are, still no convictions, not arrests - nothing but a sacked coach and a big black cloud hanging over a club.

That's pretty hard to deal with. I say defund ASADA.

Here's the press conference of Paul Gallan and Peter Sharp last night. There does not seem to be any tension between the two- but Sharps body language does look kind of despondent and unenthused. His answers are very vague too "ummm we need everyone on the paddock" and he was asked about anyone coming back "Oh Jeff Robson will come back but I'm not holding my breath".

Maybe Gallan is right- maybe the job is becoming too much for Sharp and a change would be better for everyone involved.

http://www.sharks.com.au/news/2014/06/21/rd_15_press_conferencesharks.html

I think there is something to this, but in the whole it is a perfect storm. The sharks are the worst resourced team in the comp - who knows what kind of assistance Sharp has. I'm guessing not much. Gallen has just spent a month with the blues - one of the best resourced sporting teams in the country. He's been hanging out with Storm and Dogs players and hearing about all the good gear they have and they've been winning. Then he gets back to Cronulla and they have half a game plan, blokes that seem to be picked on reputation, no staff, no sponsors, get flogged etc etc etc

So with the injuries and everything else, and knowing he has only 3 months left in the job that he never wanted, I'd be surprised if Sharp does give half a f**k. And I'm not surprised Gallen has blown up, not that I think he should've publicly. And I'm not surprised it has happened while he has been enjoying the trappings of the blues camp.

Jesus, and I thought the raiders were dysfunctional.

Geez, this Gallen sheila is a whinger! Why doesn't he face up to he fact that maybe the Sharks are just shit?

Some of the quotes from that article are laughable.

"Now that, mentally, to everyone...to me players are like schoolkids. If you can get away with a little bit you're going to. If you know your team can turn up Monday and your coach isn't going to rouse on you for not having a good game, I don't think you're going to put 100 per cent in."

^^^That's your problem right there - the players.

"I don’t think it’s too late because there’s still I think 10 games to go in the season. I don't want to win the wooden spoon. I don't know if it's an option or not. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win some games."

^^^We know, Captain Peptide, we know.

What a tosser.

My issue is why is ASADA going after Cronulla, Danks worked with Manly for 4 years, and ASADA is only after Cronulla who was only at the club for 11 weeks..Cronulla should reverse their decision to extend Flannigan a new contract and start fresh...I Like a line from the Dark Knight Rises "The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming". Cronulla needs a new direction.

If I was a Sharks fan... These comments in particular would concern me...

What does that say about the culture of your club, when your captain compares the playing group to school kids.

No Paul... Your professional athletes. Your hard working fans pay money every week for you and your team mates to represent your club with pride.

What a load of f**king shit that it...

To me... It typifies who Paul Gallen is... The guy blames everyone else before looking at himself. The whole ASADA issue proves it... Instead of accepting that he's a professional athlete and as such he is ultimately responsible for what goes In to his body... He's in the press bagging the NRL for letting ASADA quite rightly do it's job.

I mean FFS... The bloke was in the paper last week blaming this and that for him and his mrs not being able to have kids.

He's a cop out king...

Part of the problem is that some of the players are all still there crying on each others shoulders so to speak. As hard as it is for some of them, the club should have got rid of as many as possible. I remember not long after he joined, Beau Ryan said that there was a separation between the affected players and the new players. Not much unity, too much melancholy.

This year was a write-off for the Sharks before it even began, wouldn't hurt to be professional about it though like the Storm were in 2010 playing for no points.

The extension was definitely based more on emotion rather than logic....

At the time that Flanno was sighted and suspended, the extension was a great show of solidarity, but now its more dead-weight than anything. 2014 was written off from the start and im not sure the next few years will be any different.

The issue here isn't Sharp.. It's the players.

If Gallen can feel his team mates not giving 100% then as captain he needs to fix it.

Strong leadership from senior players can overcome coaching problems.

I mean look at Michael Hagan and Ricky Stuart's premierships as coaches... IMO those premierships were won by strong leadership by a Fittler, Fitzgibbon or Adrian Morley more that Stuart... Or Johns, Buderus & Ben Kennedy more than Hagan.

Gallen blaming the coach is a joke...

The way Gallen has come out with this lacks any sort of professionalism. If you came out and made comments like this about the person who overlooks you in any other job (regardless of their competence), you'd be in deep sh*t.

As for the comments themselves, Sharp never wanted the job to begin with, of course he was never going to have the greatest attitude. More concerning is that these comments essentially throw a blanket over the deeper issues at the club right now.

Paul Gallen, What a dufus. Never looks at what is wrong with his own game, or what he can do to help fix things. Always seems to be pointing the finger at someone else or blaming someone else. Just comes across as a whiner to me.
