I'm typically not a massive fan of long contracts but for the sharks, with the difficulty we seem to have attracting players, I completely agree with locking in a player of gals quality long term. It can only assist in attracting others to the club (except maybe paea)

A great deal for our longest serving shark. Pauly made his debut in 2001 and has never looked back! I hope this removes any coaching clauses and we can see Birdy come home in 2012 for one last run together.

Iam surprised & shocked...
I honestly expected him to pack his bags & leave at the end of this year after all the talk coming out over the pi$$ing incident. Its a pleasant surprise but we all know that contracts arent worth the paper they are written on.
A big well done to Gal for signing up...stability to the side, experience to teach the younger guys & a great player to build a side around.

We are giving a footballer who turns 29 this year a 4 year contract?

And by all reports are bigger pay day than what he is already on at the peak of his career?

OMG!

That's bad business Mr. Irvine.

Petro and Steve Price got their biggest pay days at similar ages. I know Gallen is a back rower but he is basically a 3rd prop

Gallen is great for the young forwards coming through.

Paul Gallen A Shark For Life

10/03/2010 4:10:02 PM

The Hisense Sharks today confirmed that Australian representative, Paul Gallen, has agreed to play out his career with the Club.
Gallen will tomorrow resign his contract, which has been extended to the completion of the 2013 season.
Sharks CEO, Richard Fisk, said Paul’s decision was a massive show of loyalty to the Club, its tradition and the Sutherland Shire.
“I’m aware that Paul was being pursued by three other clubs and it’s extremely pleasing that he has placed the Sharks above the chase of the dollar,” Fisk said.
“This is a positive sign for every junior in the Sutherland Shire that the Sharks have a strong future, and loyalty has its very own special rewards.”
Sharks Chairman, Damian Irvine, was thrilled with Paul’s decision and says the extension is a real indicator of how far the Club has come.
“The Sharks are entering a new watershed period and the contract extension is a clear reflection on the changing direction of the Club,” Irvine said.
“We have a group of talented youngsters here and a player like Paul is an ideal leader to help them develop into future stars.”
The 2010 season shapes as a great one for the Sharks with their opening game against World Club Challenge champions, Melbourne Storm, this Saturday night.
Paul first debuted for the Sharks in 2001 and is about to enter his tenth season. He will now become one of the very few players in rugby league to have played out their career over more than a decade with the one club.

Gal is the heart of the Cronulla team, that is a MASSIVE, MASSIVE, MASSIVE signing !!!!!

The guy is a maching not concerned about the length of his' contract he is SUPER competitive, him becoming complacent is a non factor.

You are clearly a dillusional clown Dragon Slayer. Gall will still be pumping out the excellent performances and intimidating the opposition at the age of 32, just look at Hindy and Fitzy, and consider that Gall is actually better than both these guys.
