The NRL do have a standard contract.
Lawyer representation though, if it was paid for by the NRL, then any half competent lawyer would get the contract quashed as the lawyer wouldn't be considered "independent" of the employer, as their fiduciary responsibility wouldn't be to the player, it would be to the NRL. That lack of counsel of the choice of the player is what lead to a number of player contracts being successfully challenged in court and ultimately quashed during the Super League era (e.g. Jarrod McCracken, Dean Pay, Jason Smith and Jim Dymock).
