That's certainly true.....but several dictionaries (particularly US-based ones) now contain a 2nd definition equivalent to 'implying', or 'hinting' e.g.:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/infer
On the game - I finished watching the replay. What did Klemmer do at the end to start the melee? I didn't see anything.
I stand corrected.
I wasn't aware of that!
Carry on, ash!
From memory he lifted Scott's leg high to get him in a dangerous position, which seemed un-warranted for that stage of the game.
Lifted Beau Scott into a dangerous/spear tackle position
Klemmers a f**kwit ... i know we nsw people are obliged to like him cos we have to hope he can bash a few queenslanders, but lets call a spade a spade ... he's a massive implement
The Oxford people will agree with your original point 100% mate (so would I). It's just a case of the accepted meaning of words gradually changing over time as people constantly 'misuse' them Soon 'augurs well' and 'all goes well' will be the same phrase.

blame firefly for that one
"verse" was never a verb in Firefly..
'verse as it is used in Firefly, is a short term for Universe.
As for Imply vs. infer, I will defer to Eelementary on that one, which was why I said okie dokie, have always got those mixed up.
