Game thread v Warriors Saurday 21/3/15

Do you happen to have a link to the article? I find it hard to believe Morgan (who is a starter for Wenty and backup for first grade) is on anything more than 100k.

It's earlier in this thread somewhere....but the point is that the assertion doesn't mean anything. 'He's among the top paid players' doesn't necessarily mean 'he's among the Top 5 paid players'.

I just elaborated on what the article said, I didn't say it was true, but the article quotes our CEO on other matters, so perhaps there is some truth to the article.

The 4th last paragraph is the info on Morgan...

I would believe Morgan is on about $200k. It's what he's worth, but too much for a player outside the top 17.

Basically he's too good to be a backup. He either needs to be top 17 or he gets replaced in the squad.

Apologies, I didn't mean you were lying, I just wanted to see it with my own eyes. It just seems unbelievable and I don't dislike Morgan like some on here.

The statement "The fact Peni Terepo and Ryan Morgan are among some of the highest-paid players at the club" is just difficult to fathom on so many levels.

It is concerning, Hagan and Anderson have a lot to answer for :sarcasm:

They were both signed to be in our top 17 so of course they are getting more than the other 22 members of the squad. Both have excelled in individual NRL games so they obviously have potential when used to their strengths. Arthur has also mentioned both players as examples of our strong depth. The problem is that both are getting paid too much to be backups (which is where they started the year) rather than that they are on more than they're worth.

As a hypothetical example, you're better off with your top three centres on $250k, $250k and $100k rather than having three centres each on $200k.

Just watched the press conference, gee the journo's asking Arthur about peat's are keen. Arthur looks so pissed at the questions and is about to jump the desk and tackle them.

I think the article is simply saying that Terepo and Morgan are in the top 17 highest paid at the club, but normally (injuries to others aside) wouldn't get a look in for selection in the top 17, and we needed to buy in players in their positions (Champion/Takairangi, Watmough) to field an NRL standard team.

Some strange opinions in here I reckon (mostly after losses).

My thoughts

Hoppa - Not a dynamic kick returner for sure. But he seriously hasn't made a mistake or given away a penalty in 3 games. He is safe and bloody reliable. In fact I would say he is superb at cleaning up kicks. And he put his body on the line when Manu ran straight at him. These aren't the sorts of players you want to get rid of.

Morgan - Did not see much ball so was pretty quiet. But I thought he was actually good defensively - unless you are all watching a different game to me.

Sandow - disappointing but no way was he 100%. He will fire next week.

De Gois - suddenly he is a dud eh?? fmd. Not his best game but he wasn't on his own there. Plenty to offer.

Robinson - I know he seems to have escaped criticism this week - but he is worth persisting with. Amazing pace which we don't have a lot of at the moment. That put down was pretty incredible. If he is willing to put his body on the line more he will go okay.

The criticisms of Watmough and Peats are laughable.

Agree with above. Your opinion on Hoppa's attack ?

I don't think the wsrriors game is a good example on whether Hoppa is poor in attack, quite a few times we tried the sweeping movement on either side, but we did it without going forward first, it gave no room to the outside backs. It looked very dragon like

The criticism aimed at Watmough's terrible offloads and penalties aren't exactly laughable.
But then he's been doing that stuff for over 10 years now, so we knew what we were getting. We can't expect him to cut that stuff out now just because he's at a new club.

Yeh, pretty much X 2....and I've forced myself to watch the game twice. Whether we keep Hoppa is just a matter of asking price.

all spot on, robinson has won a reprieve because he has made a concerted effort to run through the line, it's like the coaching staff are already on top of this and he's now under instructions.

morgan was very good defensively had about 20 tackles

the game was lost because we simply carried too many injuries into the match, especially in the pack, choc and tepai were clearly not 100%, sandow was a passenger because of his ankle, and we picked up more injuries during the match, taka, peats de gois etc.

the boys dug deep regardless and put in an admirable effort for the remainder of the match considering
