We kicked three penalties in round 3, and 1/2 conversions in a close game. It was also in round 3 that Duges attacked Packers forearm with his jaw.

Who's our Field Goal kicker? McCrone?

If Field is the only reconised goal kicker it's pointless having him on the bench. He'll be lucky to see any game time if any. Barring injuries or very poor form I can't see any of the spine players being replaced which leads me to think he may miss the cut.

He can kick but hes is only number 2 kicker for illawarra.
Nona is number 1
I think field is about 60 to 70 % kicker in all grades.
I dont think he will play

Jason Nightingale says the Cronulla Sharks are no longer St George Illawarra Dragons' little brothers

Jason Nightingale believes Cronulla are no longer St George Illawarra’s little brothers.

St George Illawarra host their fierce local rivals at UOW Jubilee Oval, Kogarah looking to get back on track after their impressive start to the season was halted by back to back defeats against the Sydney Roosters and Melbourne.

The Dragons’ round three derby victory over Cronulla helped kick start their season and they will be out to do the double over the Sharks on Friday night. St George Illawarra downed Cronulla 16-10 at Shark Park with a gritty performance where they outlasted the reigning premiers.

For years St George Illawarra have held superiority over their neighbours from south of the Captain Cook Bridge but Dragons winger Nightingale, a veteran of 19 derby clashes, told the Leader things had changed since the Sharks’ maiden title last season.

“I don’t know if they are little brother at the moment. It’s hard to call them little brother when they’re the premiers,” he said.

“I live in Cronulla as well. It’s a week where people around the area treat you a bit differently. You have to understand the rivalry and the competitiveness. The fans definitely add to the expectations and the rivalry which adds to the atmosphere.”

Nightingale understands the rivalry better than most. A St George junior with Renown United, the New Zealand international has grown up with it.

It will be a tougher assignment for the Dragons this time around without captain Gareth Widdop (knee) and star fullback Josh Dugan (cheekbone) through injury.

Nightingale said it only took playing in one Dragons-Sharks derby for it to mean as much to players as it does the fans.

“It’s like your first Charity Shield or Anzac Day game. Before you play those games it’s hard to understand,” he said.

“There are plenty of local juniors in our team who pass stories on and our coaching staff are involved a lot.

“I grew up as a St George junior after I came across from New Zealand and played all my junior footy in the St George district. I grew up with it and witnessed it many times before I got to play in one.”

St George Illawarra have an outstanding recent record at Kogarah, winning eight of their last nine matches against all opposition. Conversely, Kogarah has been a graveyard for the Sharks, losing seven of their last eight visits.

NRL Preview: Round 10 v Cronulla Sharks
Wed 10th May, 10:00AM
A A

St George Illawarra Dragons v Cronulla Sharks
UOW Jubilee Oval, Kogarah
Friday, 6pm

The St George Illawarra Dragons will do battle with the Cronulla Sharks for the second time in two months on Friday, May 12 at UOW Jubilee Oval, Kogarah.

The two combatants had a high amount of players each take part in NRL Representative Round, and neither came through unscathed.

Dragons fullback Josh Dugan's (fractured cheekbone) friendly fire with teammate Russell Packer in the Trans-Tasman Test will see him miss the next three weeks.

As a result, Jason Nightingale shifts to fullback with Taane Milne (wing) and Jai Field (bench) earning promotions in coach Paul McGregor's 17.

The Sharks will have to make do without back-rower Tony Williams (ACL) who is out for the season following his showing for Tonga at the Pacific Test Invitational last Saturday.

Sharks veteran Luke Lewis's return from a hamstring injury sees him slot in as T-Rex's replacement.

Teams –

Dragons: 1. Jason Nightingale, 2. Nene Macdonald, 3. Euan Aitken, 4. Tim Lafai, 5. Taane Milne, 6. Kurt Mann, 7. Josh McCrone, 8. Russell Packer, 9. Cameron McInnes, 10. Paul Vaughan, 11. Tyson Frizell (c), 12. Joel Thompson, 13. Jack de Belin. Interchange: 14. Tariq Sims, 15. Leeson Ah Mau, 16. Hame Sele, 17. Jai Field, 18. Kalifa Faifai Loa, 19. Jacob Host, 20. Luciano Leilua, 21. Siliva Havili.

Sharks: 1. Valentine Holmes, 2. Sosaia Feki, 3. Jack Bird, 4. Ricky Leutele, 5. Gerard Beale, 6. James Maloney, 7. Chad Townsend, 8. Andrew Fifita, 9. Jayden Brailey, 10. Matt Prior, 11. Luke Lewis, 12. Wade Graham, 13. Paul Gallen (c). Interchange: 14. Joseph Paulo, 15. Chris Heighington, 16. Jeremy Latimore, 17. Kurt Capewell, 18. Sam Tagataese, 19. Daniel Mortimer, 20. Edrick Lee, 21. Kurt Dillon.

Thrown from position to position in 2017, Mann's sought consistency should allow him to make inroads against the Sharks. Surprisingly Maloney has only two try assists to his name this season, meaning he could very well turn it on this weekend as well.

The History: Played 39; Dragons 20, Sharks 18, Drawn 1. The Red V were last start winners against the Sharks following their 16-10 win back in Round 3. As a result the Dragons extended their recent record over their local rivals to seven wins in their past 10 meetings.

Televised: Fox League – Live coverage from 5:30pm

Lafai likely to have kicking duties in Sharks clash

Tim Lafai will likely have goal-kicking duties against Cronulla on Friday

IT seems Tim Lafai will need to see off some unlikely challengers to secure goal-kicking duties against Cronulla this week.

With Gareth Widdop and Josh Dugan both out with injury Lafai is the man most likely to assume kicking duties. Lafai’s last NRL goal came in against the Knights in round 25, 2015. He struck the ball well at training on Tuesday but he only had his tongue slightly in his cheek when he named the other contenders.

“I think Leeson [Ah Mau] and Russ [Russell Packer], so there’s some tough contenders there,” Lafai joked.

“There’s about three of us going in for that kick-off so I guess whoever kicks best at the captain’s run will get the duty. It’s one of the most important roles in the game, winning a game by two points goes a long way so it’s something we’ll need to get right this week.”

Ah Mau, of course, has a 100 per cent strike rate in his career having knocked over his only career attempt in his 100th game for the club against the Tigers in round five.

Hahahaha.

This is f**king hilarious.

This journo was scratching hard to find some adversity to write about for the Sharks. So he claims that they will have to "make do" with Lewis, who is an excellent, proven, experienced performer over the myth that is T-Rex.

And he chooses to write this instead of the actual adversity that the sharks face this week, where their locker room cannot be unaffected by the cocaine scandal with their chairman, a 20's player getting done for it too, and losing a massive sponsor in the process.

This is surely satire.

I wouldn't call infinity a massive sponsor in the whole scheme of things.

But i agree, the journo is an idiot if he thinks losing T-Rex and replacing him with Lewis is anything but a positive.

Williams wouldn't have made the side anyway

That's fair. I probably got a little carried away in my rant. Although if the reported 700k figure is correct, it's not negligible.

Damn you for being such a reasonable sharks supporter millers. It makes hating your club much less fun.

Not quite, as night follows day, l will always dislike the sharks but it's good to acknowledge decent easy going supporters who can share a laugh or two ........ well done 'millers'.

Coach is looking relaxed and chirpy.
This is a good sign.
I really reckon Dragons 19-12 with a penalty try.
Therefore, I'm putting everything on the Sharks.
