just thinking of backline we could have

1 Teddy
2 paps
3 Suli
4 Doueihi
5 Nofo
6 Moses/ Benji
7 Brooks

And there is also the odd forward who is playing elsewhere. I know most clubs have the same story but it hurts when you see what we have and what we could have had

Suli was unreal last night. Best game in grade I've seen him play

I gotta admit i could never see him reach those sort of heights

Suli can play. He always could. He was Mal Meniga like out there wasn't he. His defence is sometimes a bit shitty but he is a weapon out wide.

What do you do with a guy like that though ? He just wasn't ready for it when he was with us. He bombed out at the Dogs as well. We haven't been lucky at all have we.

Think of our good signings. Tapau, Matterson and JAC and some of the juniors that have come through ala Tedesco, Woods and Moses. We've had talent come through the club. We just don't retain the right ones. It's not so easy though is it. What can the club do with Matterson ? It's like we get guys with bad attitudes. They all seem to leave for more dollars. They don't even think about staying. If we offer more money I bet we can keep Matterson but it's like he is railroading us.

Let's not forget he was 18 at the time with us. And he was grieving at the loss of his father. I think we gave him too much stick

What he needed was a mentor / a father figure type to look after him, pull him into line etc. If we had Marshall at the club back then he could have taken on that role. He was a troubled kid who has seemed to have matured now though so good luck to him

I agree with you. I think we had to let him go but I'm not having a go at the kid.

Yeah, tbh we kinda shot ourselves in the foot with signing him for 500k a year with no 1st grade experience - that raised our unrealistic expectations on him. But it isn't his fault he was offered that sort of money

The club has to start learning from it's mistakes. To be fair, it looks that is starting to happen. Since Madge has come on board, no one has been given a contract beyond three years. We aren't publicising any post-playing career jobs for the boys and we're not releasing any players unless we benefit and that includes players that are involved in off field incidents.

Next year is going to be pretty rough, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Only Packer, Reynolds and Mbye are on big dollar contracts beyond 2020, with Reynolds and Packer coming off contract at the end of that year, so there should be more room to move in the market for 2021. Hopefully the club doesn't make the same mistake with Madge as it made with Potter.

We made it worse didn't we. He has that ability but he wasn't ready to play first grade from a maturity perspective. I still don't trust the kid that much. I can see him screwing up again.

Everyone likes to (rightfully) bag us for terrible recruitment decisions - Rankin over JAC, Blair over Fifita etc. But we've had some terrible luck with deadshits screwing us over too - Suli, Lodge, Simona and now it seems Matterson.

We just haven't been able to take a trick for the past decade.

Throw in Career ending injuries over the years to special players, such as Dwyer and TNT and also Fulton.

Our club has been terrible at retention ,recruitment and managing our salary cap in the past, this needs to change or we will be forever struggling to compete with our roster.
Well, stability in a coach should help.
But there are always people who believe they are worth more than what they really are.

I check the gradual decimation of the west tigers dates where top players left and more times than not I see Jason Taylor’s name ..Simple don’t hire a coach that hasn’t held the position for 6 years and has nothing to show for the time he coached except getting into a punch up with one of his team..It’s still beyond me how he got the job??

I'm not sure if it was true or not, but the literal only reason he was picked was because of the way he presented himself in the interview.

Sure interviews are important for a corporate job or something like that but in a results driven business? lol

Its like choosing Jason Taylor over Craig bellamy cause Taylor wore a Tie and Bellamy didn't

anyways the Taylor era was a mess but it was over the minute Cleary had a full cap to spend. And he f**ked that up aswell. We really just need to stick with a coach for 3-4 years first before we can expect to make any inroads
