The State Government has announced it will allocate funding towards the development of a business case for an upgrade of Panthers Stadium.

Acting Sports Minister Geoff Lee has confirmed feasibility studies will be undertaken on both Panthers Stadium and Brookvale Oval.

It comes after the NRL, through ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys, expressed disappointment that only Kogarah Oval was allocated funding in the State Budget.

“We know there is interest in communities to overhaul community grounds so we are firstly doing the planning work to make sure the costs stack-up,” Mr Lee said.

“We are serious about continuing our investment into community infrastructure and the business cases for these suburban grounds will give us the best insights on the community benefits for revitalisation.

“When we build and renew community infrastructure we get the benefits for the people of NSW. Revamping infrastructure like local grounds in Sydney’s South, North and West is a catalyst for jobs and economic growth, as well as providing communities with uplift in amenity and livability.

“Just look at how Bankwest Stadium has become a fan favourite, no matter what sport you follow.

“It’s important to get the basics right with these business cases so we can make informed decisions regarding any future investment into suburban grounds.”

I was at the Paceway on Thursday just gone with Fibroman he was down from Taree for our Xmas catch up.

I admit way too many beers and a few reds to boot but speaking to one of the directors of the Paceway on the night there is a suggestion our new stadium could be on the site currently occupied by the Paceway?

Apparently, the overall size of the land currently occupied by our current stadium is simply not big enough to build a stadium the equivalent of say Bank West at Parramatta.

It would require the NSW Govt to purchase the Paceway site in order to build a new stadium the equivalent of a Bank West.

The land currently occupied by our stadium would then be developed for high rise units.

There are developers chaping at the bit to acquire the current land occupied by the Paceway and build a new trotting facility at Castlereagh but if the NSW Govt step in we could have a new stadium.

The pace way has been on a sell agenda by the government for a while. They have been treading carefully not to upset the racing community
I was told 10 years ago it nearly was sold off now comes the 2 hands one hand cost 20 million to build a stadium
.The other hand is a developer offering 3 times that amount or more.We lose

I'm pretty sure the Paceway land has been zoned to not be built out, it must be used for recreational purposes. A stadium would qualify, but I assume the land the existing stadium is on would also have to stay as recreational. My parents are on Rodley Ave & back on to the paceway, they keep up with the latest zoning for that area. They are looking to get out of there though as the rest of the street is turning into high rise heaven.

The Paceway land is all but in the hands of the big developers. Zoning is not the issue trust me. It is the most valuable peace of real estate in Penrith. All that stands in its way is a new stadium. No stadium then it will all be Hugh rise units and shops.

For government there’s no better time to borrow money because interest rates are so low. There’ll be a heap of infrastructure spending over the next 5 years, it’s just a matter of whether they see a stadium as good value.

If the council sold the current stadium to developers, and used that money to finance a new stadium on the paceway site, it could go a way to convincing the state govt to chip in the rest. I dare say the Panthers might be able to come up with $10m or so to contribute as well.

this would be great

There would be no need to play home games out of another stadium (would have been Bankwest) whilst our new statdium is being built.

The issue with the current site is the sewage runs directly under the alcho hill. Hence the smell near the main gates.

Rumours were that site was getting sold to developers and a new ground where the golf driving range is. Would be great near the river.

As for tennants. I have always wondered why Penrith isn't used more. Concerts, plays etc could increase the usage

You're welcome. Glad you like it.

I'm gobsmacked by it. Made a tough day more than a bit brighter.

(PS Hanging on by teeth I live in regional NSW Hunter area, hoping like mad I can get to my son's wedding down the south coast on Jan 2........getting a bit concerned about how covid is ramping up )
