Not only that, but the Dogs lifted, which they do once in a while. Tonight they were abysmal, no doubt about it.

The issue for Dean Pay, as it was for Des last year, is how to get this team playing to its potential more than once a month.

He can't do much. At the end of the year Morris', Eastwood and Tolman will be gone. Already signed Cogger will have cap room to fit his style. Very rare for a new coach to go well right away. It takes 2-3 years

So how long has Griffin been with us then??

Very successful teams don't build teams around players but around the coach. Look at Roosters and Melbourne.

I think we are doing the same with Griffin. Out with anyone (regardless of who you are) who doesn't fit his style. So far it is hard to complain about the results as the win percentage is pretty good.

Still - this year will be the benchmark of his success.

You're right. With this being his 3rd year he should be defined by the results here. Good so far hope it continues.

A very point I have been saying. Throw in other stuff like age of the team. The off field garbage the utter failure of the club in the past... This is why criticism has been uncalled for the next 2 years will show if we are on the right track

You look at that video and the first thing that comes to mind is how good it is that the club recognises players this way. Hook listed their junior teams at the various age groups and how impressive is it that we are producing so many good first graders form our juniors now. Crichton played and the highest compliment I can give him is that I didn't notice DZW was missing.

What is remarkable, as fans we don't even blink now when another junior debuts, we expect them to be good and they are. We haven't been able to do this in the past. Highly talented players like Sjeika and Iosefa just sunk without trace.

I think one of the reasons Hook was brought in was because he spent time at the Broncos and they have had a strong winning culture in place for a number of years. Little things like this presentation all add up to create the right culture that breeds success. It started when Gus made Jennings hand out tickets after his drunken antics at training and when he let Petero and Lewis go. Their 'shop steward' approach to captaincy was not what any good club wants, or needs. A line in the sand was drawn and it has taken time, but maybe we are seeing the start of something good.

The second thing that stood out for me was that considering the picture painted by the media about how unhappy some of the players are with Hook, they seem to hide their dissatisfaction really well.

For some reason Hook generates so much hate in media and fans... Kinda sad really people missing enjoying this team for petty reasons

Hook has influenced the careers of a lot of players. Especially during his under 20’s and QLD cup tenure.

Players he persisted with were Hunt, Glenn, McCullogh, McGuire, Gagai, Gillet and Norman to name a few.

Can add Copley, Baptiste, Korbin and Tariq Sims and Jordan Kahu who he coached in the 20’s and beyond.

Even Hoffman was at his peak under Hook.

He’s done a lot with this playing group and he deserves credit where it’s due. If the players like him and we play good quality football which gets results then I’m happy to keep him at the helm.

I was/am in the anti Griffin camp but this year is challenging my perceptions. Moylan can't get his legs right, Cartwright can't play above park footy standard. Our boys look happy, motivated, fit and are getting the job done.

The rest of 2018 will be interesting to see if the trend continues.

Ivan Cleary was very popular. We could have replaced him with Bellamy and people would still be negative.

Regarding media hype, I am guessing this is due to Gus. He has stuck his neck out to bring in Hook at the expense of Cleary. Any chance to have a go at him, especially from any News Ltd/Foxtel media outlet.

That's ridiculous.

Hunt was a benchie most of his career under Hook
Norman was moved between 1 and 6 before being allowed to leave
Hoffman was the player swapping with him
Dane gagai played 7 games before being sacked

Nearly every player under him has been better before or after being coached by him. Including every player you named.

He didn't destroy careers. He just delayed them or made them happen at other clubs

Im sorry but some of this is ridiculous and factually wrong. Hoffman at his peak? A guy who refuses to pass the ball was being picked in the halves over corey norman and ben hunt and he was woeful. No other coach has played him anywhere but the wing since then but hook saw him as a half. Gagai was not persisted with by Hook, Hook picked Copley over him until Gagai acted out and left. Google "corey Norman and Anthony griffin" and you will find news articles where Norman actually says he left the broncos because Hook wouldn't pick him in the halves or give him a position. Im happy to credit hook for our good start but lets not rewrite the history books into him being some fantastic coach because the jury is still out.

So all his work in the 20’s and QLD cup with those players had no influence on their careers.

Sounds legit.

Again, the post references his influence on players throughout their time in 20’s, Cup and FG

I wanted Ivan gone but the hiring of someone without so much as an interview was wrong. If Brennan did the below he'd be a god

Ignoring that a new coach came in. Inherited someone else's roster. The 1st season he had to keep that sacked coaches assistants and support staff.

Had a roster with the spine all coming off major injuries. Needing to get the majority of the best junior team I have seen in (10 from 2015 NYC team played FG - backs that up). While learning new players and keep them winning. Lost a test centre pairing. Went into a week 2 finals game without Blake or RCG too.

Year 2. Short pre season for a few guys. Youngest roster in the comp. off field rumours about TMM/Merrin. Bryce on front page disruption. Club captain in rehab on finals eve...

Regardless of what happens with Griffin this should be the minimum expectations every year. We have under performed look to finally get a winning culture going and still not good enough for some
