Thought it would be worth taking a look at our starts due to recent comments.

After the 1st 16 games we only let in one try in the first 10 minutes of a match.
Only twice in that 16 game stretch did the opposing team score the opening try of a match. Brisbane 10th min R6, GC 38th minute R8.

The whole 16 rounds takes in the origin period with the next man up attitude holding the fort. The bye came in round 17.

From rounds 18-24. We now have conceded 5 tries in the opening 10 minutes of a match from 7 games.
And only twice in 7 games have we been opening try -scorer.

How did we do last year?
For the 1st 12 matches we only conceded 1 try in the opening 10 minutes (Vs Storm R3) and just twice did opposing teams score the opening try. (Vs Storm R3) (Vs Canb R5)

The Origin period where players were missing or short back up
R13- 18. resulted in us conceding three tries in the opening 10 minutes, and 4 out of 5 times conceding the opening try. Including the match against last year's Round 13 premiers.

After the Origin rounds 19-25 we only conceded two tries in the opening 10 minutes from 7 games.

Both years our impressive defensive starts fall away after the Origin period. Which is understandable as fatigue sets in the longer the season goes on.
Both years we had our halves out after Origin. Luai injured both years and Cleary injured last year and suspended this year.

They had been some chat that maybe attitude had changed or something at training had changed.
I think it is quite obvious. You can't go full throttle all year. There will be periods when intensity drops off.

My point? We are in an incredible position again this year. A rest for key players makes a whole lot of sense this week.

Good comment. I have updated my games played table after Friday's game. Leota and Martin have now had an extra games rest.

Only Api has played more than last year and he is likely to be out next week to protect his injury. He only played half a game on Friday, so that was good. The club has really tried to rest players more this year. They would see what your data shows, SOO saps the juice and performances decline. You must start the year with a bang because SOO is going to cost you games and players. After SOO, getting back to peak level in time for the finals is the key.

What we don't know is what the players fitness data is showing. For all we know, the club has been doing extras at training to work the players hard so they can taper for the finals. Hence why we have looked a bit listless the last month. Tapering is used by most performance athletes to optimise their performance for when it matters, but in the NRL you can really only do that if you have already qualified for the finals. Luckily we have been so dominant this year the club could have started their tapering program a month out from the finals.

Very interesting.

You'd have to pick Staines if Tmay sits out. Turuva is too green to throw into a finals match.

If only we had Tyrone to play centre...

Not sure a strong back 3 is our strength, I think I would lean towards Turuva

Needs to be a far more serious charge like Bellend's rape charge or Stabby's attempted murder charge
ahhh gotcha let’s hope this doesn’t derail anything too massively where team changes are required.

f**k what the rest of the comp and media thinks, anybody in their right mind would do sumn similar if not the same if they, as well as their mates were getting berated by some dickhead for hours on end even after the bloke’s been asked to stop.

Its a big decision. Turuva looks a bit more physical and would probably give us a lot more on kick returns. But in return you'd be playing him in high pressure matches which isn't easy for any new player. Staines hasn't had a lot of experience but I'll take his 30 odd games in this scenario.
