Its a good change for Origin. But it still rules out a guy like Sam Burgess.

The pool of players who can't play Origin has grown smaller. But they still have that hidden benefit of being available in the winter months for NRL clubs. Its a very nice bonus.

Anyway once we hit 20 teams the scheduling should change dramatically. It will be a great day when we can still have Origin and not compromise the quality of club football matches.

so Moses is still not eligible for Origin - which is fantastic for us

may as well drop the restrictions - Origin cant get any bigger than what it is - the international game is the future

Meh. Not a fan. Keep it Australian vs Australian.

Why would you expect guys like Fisher Harris and Shaun Johnson to care about our states like Tommy Raudonikis or Wally Lewis do/did? Why should I be expected to care when I know the players don't? Outside of the pay check of course.

The guys who will be eligible to play have probably grown up being total into Origin. They would have grown up here in Australia as kids so every winter they were glued to the screen for Origin.

Its not quite open slather yet where anyone can play. Its mainly for the islander players who want to represent their country which previously blocked them from playing Origin. I think its a smart change.

The eligibility rule that you have to have been in the state from 13 years old still applies.

Is the pay check comment a subtle dig at NSW players?
Anyway Laurie would ruin Casey McLean's career if he was picked. (Casey name mentioned back a bit.)

Not specifically. But it is financially beneficial for players to play SOO, so of course players who are eligible will mouth platitudes about how much it means to them. You'll no doubt hear such words from guys like AFB, Nikora and probably Casey.

Sorry, I just don't see a world in which people who have declared they want to play for NZ or England will really have the same connection to the concept to those who have declared for Australia. Yet another way the whole concept is cheapened.

To some degree yes, but it's a bit different for players of 2nd tier nations who can maintain a tie to both Australia and their place of heritage. Ideally you'd have international rules that encouraged people to make a commitment to a single nation but thats not the world we live in.
