Our last year's fitness guy is now at the Sharks. They seem pretty fit. Where did we get out guy from?
I think Ryan Bailey is currently our fitness guy.

Nathan Pickworth (aka Pickers) was our fitness guy until the end of 2020.

Pickers is doing a good job for the Sharks whilst our guy, Bailey, doesn't appear to have our guys able to put in for the full 80 minutes.

Pickers didn't do a good job for us in the 4 years he was here

Yes, "Pickers" was great at the Dragons I thought. An interview posted every week on the Web site with a update on all the injuries and progress reports on comeback dates etc. This year - not much. Not sure why Pickers was let go, but his replacement seems no better and is possibly worse!

Why do you say that? I thought he was good, but you probably know more than me. What's the story?
Yes, what's the story? I said that Pickers is doing a good job at the Sharks and didn't mention how good or otherwise he was at the Dragons in the time spent as our fitness/conditioner. He might not have been that good for us but I think better than Bailey.

Is it that the players just haven't got the skill , the mental aptitude or athletic ability to do what the conditioning guys want ?
…..agree. …technique. These missed tackles aren’t all connected to fitness I can assure you. Happens too regularly at different stages of the game; too many first graders can’t leg or hip tackle as they haven’t developed the skill coming through. Amazing that is…De Belin, V Radley and J Trbojevic the exception.

A risk, but relatively low because of his contract. A fully-fit Burgess could be great off the bench, but hook will probably have him in the starting 17 with Sharon.

I believe the players have the skill but aren't fit enough to put things together. the coach is his boss and so much of his work is in consultation with the coach. Pickworth had the players fully fit for the first half of the season but could not maintain that fitness from about SOO to the end of the season.

It is a pity that what you say about Pickworth was the case maybe possm. He seems like he has corrected things and have got the Sharks better conditioned for the run home to the finals this year.

Other clubs seem to have appropriate support staff capable of doing their job professionally ie appropriately fit and peaking at the back end season , just not at saints
a lot of our staff is not competent at every single layer of the the club from BOD down
We are and will continue to be a laughing stock

We constantly over rate our playing strength especially our forwards who are more often than not dominated due to lack of size and constantly giving away free kicks and 6 agains.

So with a smallish, ageing side and a distinct lack of depth of course our players are going to run out of puff especially against sides that remind me of the Roman Legions at the height of their empire.

In fact that is exactly how it was when we had the great run as we ran rough shod over every other team and bashed them into submission.

So blame the fitness guys all you want but the sad reality is we just don't have the cattle or the depth to compete for an entire season and it isn't a lack of fitness causing the issue it is body fatigue coupled with a lack of basic ability.

Yep. Every time we have won the grand final it's been on the back of a ruthless pack of forwards. Only know the 60's players by reputation, but in 1977 & 79 we had Reddy, Young, Stone, Starkey. In 2010 we had Costigan, Smith, Weyman, Scott. Forwards who wouldn't take a backward step. Not the same quality these days.
