Gerard Sutton demoted to Titans v Warriors clash

Sutton, who was the senior referee on Friday night, was tipped to be axed, however he has been assigned the lower-profile match between Gold Coast and the Warriors in Robina because of his involvement in the awarding of a Sharks try in their 28-24 win.

As a Warriors fan, that is f**king disgusting from the NRL. The Warriors are a top 8 team this year

I’m ok with the Titans being labelled as ‘lower-profile’. Their form hasn’t exactly been prolific this year.
However, for the Warriors to be handed the dregs of the referees this week in a game that is important to their season, is pretty degrading.
I’m obviously hoping for the Titans to win, I just hope there is no howlers which disadvantage the Warriors in the long run.

Referees coach Bernard Sutton - Gerard's brother - has insisted Friday night's matter was not a fault of the bunker, as they were not told to look for that factor.
So the bunker wasn't punished because they weren't told to look for a bloke raising his flag.

Strange. The bunker always looks at everything when a decision is referred to them.

This is just grade A bullshit. The touchie and Reynolds have been scapegoated. The people who are supposed to be there to correct those kinds of mistakes in real time were having a nap or they're just outright f**king lying about not seeing the flag.

Sack Sutton! For daring to go to the bunker on a weird thing no one has seen in a game before. Pack of pitchfork waving morons.

Absolutely anyone with any eyesight watching the Bunker footage has to have seen the flag raised.
The only way anyone could have not seen it was if they were blind or actively not looking for it, making a point to not look at the touch judge, which I find hard to believe as the touch judge gave a call of knock on in the no try decision sent to the Bunker.

Exactly. There's three guys in the bunker, they're watching the live feeds and they get the benefit of watching endless replays.

Everyone watching the game on live tv saw the touchie's flag go up in real time.

The NRL are lying.

No ref has seen a touch judge put his flag up before?
Not one half up when the ball was nowhere near the sideline, then change his mind and whip it back down again. Have you ever seen that?

But do agree the refs are all over the shop at the moment. The answer isn’t crucifying a ref like Sutton (when Klein is running around anyway). The issue is Greenberg. These poor blokes live with confusing, contradictory nonsense crackdowns and then get bugger all support from their leader more interested in his image and cosying up to his media buddies.

I doubt it is anything about the Warriors. I dare say it is viewed as lower profile as it is a Top 8 team versus a team well outside the top 8. As such it is unlikely to be a close game, and more likely to be one sided. In games which are thought will be a walkover, referees don't haave as many tough calls to make which could impact on the overall result. That is how games are assigned in just about every junior and senior league since year dot.

That said, how Sutton and the Video Referees are still at NRL level is beyond a joke. It is like being slapped with a wet lettuce.

Forget the events that led to this demotion, they're being discussed in other places... what the f**king hell is this bullshit?
How do you get demoted to another NRL game? It's basically the NRL tacitly saying the Warriors and Titans dont matter to them

What kind of organisation runs this way?
Either he's deemed good enough to officiate NRL games or he's not, you cant just demote a man to ref games between two teams you dont give a f**k about.

This wouldn't happen in Topball.

The trouble with Sutton is he's been "demoted" to another NRL game. Basically the NRL have deemed him unsuited to ref a FG unless its teams they dont give a shit about... also his brother DROPPED everyone else involved in this decision, but his brother, arguably as responsible as any, survived.

It's an appalling way to run a national code. Again forget the decision itself and how you feel about it... the NRL just said they are demoting a man for an error, and then assigned him a game with finals implications... what the f**k is that?

The NRL are literally admitting they dont give the faintest f**k about the warriors or titans. This is a punishment. To referee this game is a punishment. Imagine that shit.
