I personally think the two macs need a stint in Reggie's .either Mann or field to half and one of the young flyers on the wing .notice the tigers had a young player masters I think centre played OK and we have several under 20 just as good.

Good point. If it has to be done, now is the time . Not nearing the end when combos and plays have be set and settled .

This needs to be sorted quickly . As you can bet your bottom dollar that the other teams whom also have final aspirations , will kick-up a gear in the latter half of the season .

If we haven't found a solution to the halves problem by then , we could find ourselves working overtime in defence , in fact , that could prove to be the least of our problems .

Mary needs to bite the bullet and experiment with Field , Mann or Duffy when ever we have a game in the bag , or hopefully at least a full half of footy .

Gareth this will determine whether Mary is a good coach , that can coach under pressure when we are not playing great . For me what Mary does from here on with selections and game plan will go along way to re signing him .....

If we are really going to press for a premiership I think we need both a 7 and 6 with attacking and kicking abilities. I'm surprised that Widdop isn't under increased pressure when kicking. But if teams shut him down and we were left only with Mcrone as the go to we won't create pressure or end up giving away 7 tackle restarts.

I remain unconvinced that Mcrone can be our premiership winning 7. I'd like to see Mann or Field given a go. Field just proved himself in SOO and has shown the capacity to cope with the NRL. Mann creates things from nothing. I think either could d liver and then likely slip into the number 1 in 2018

Either would be much better than McCrone - pure and simple.
Why does Mary persevere?

The problem is that Mann is not a halfback. He is a left side player, 2, 4, 6. All though there was bad service from McCrone yesterday, Mann showed signs of being uncomfortable on the right side of the field. Field is a 6 and yet to prove to be a fullback.

So if we really want to improve things, we should buy a good halfback for the remainder of the season or look to Nona to provide a better service at halfback. Of course, in 2018 Hunt will be on board and so problem solved until there he becomes unavailable through injury or rep duties. So we still need a backup halfback. Mann, Field, Dufty and Nona don't seem to be the solution to me. We need to find an up a suitable backup halfback for 2018.

I think Nona would be a great option and would provide a specialist solution.
The fact he couldn't get a look in while Widdop was out injured suggests that he is on the outer and it doesn't look like ever happening.
At this stage, I don't care who they experiment with in the halves (Field, Mann, Nona) as long as it's not McCrone.
If we really want to use McCrone's experience then do it off the bench.

Widdop wants McCrone as his halves partner. I remember Mary saying this earlier in the season when settling on a replacement for Hutch.

I see the problems as clearly as you all do, but i don't think it's going to change unless injuries hit.

The question for me is why so much of the kicking is done by McCrone when his kicking game is just f-ing ordinary? I'd back big Vaughany to possess a better kicking game...seriously!

I must say though, I don't agree with comments McCrone to bench as cover for McInnes. That kid doesn't need a rest and is a big part of our resurgence. Let's not muck around with that.

I'd like to see Dugan take the long kicks. McCrone does not possess a long kicking game and Widdop is heavily marked. Bring in Soward to coach these players on kicking technique.

It should not be Widdop's call. Just another example of a Mary excuse. This guy is full of excuses. In the second half against the Tigers our 'power game' and the room it gives our halves seem to go out the window. Anyone on here know why? Was it because the forwards are brused and tired even after the bye?

Like him or hate him but McCrone will remain at 7 for this season mainly for his experience. He has the ability to make the players around him look better, purely because they all are. I feel they will stick with him no matter what.

Yes I think we're stuck with him barring an injury to McInnes, Widdop again or himself. Such a shame, can't really think which other club would have him in their FG 13, let alone spine.
He tries hard but gee wiz.
As another poster said, can't see us winning Finals footy with him at 7.

I am torn on this one. I struggle to see how mann or field could be any worse but maybe I am wrong? Maybe McCrone is a better talker, a better rudder, his experience is getting the team to the right parts of the field to set up plays? Or maybe thats all rubbish and he just sucks?
Dunno....

They seemed a bit flat yesterday from the get go. I noticed Vaughan wasn't running as hard as he usually does. Timing was off with the backs. I would say that it was a combination of having not played for a couple of weeks, the fact that it was the tigers and they probably expected to win and also the lack of atmosphere at the ground.
Your theory of the power game not being sustainable has nothing to do with it Possm, I know where you are heading with this ;)

Yes , ever so much . So many , have already mentioned that he appears to be playing on the side of caution , rather than tinkering with the team selections , that will create an attack that is truly potent .

Being cautious may very well get the team into the semi's , however the real measure of his coaching/selection skills will be measured by just how far the Dragons are able to go beyond that first match .
