Actually I started to lose weight through sit ups, side bends and resistant training. sit ups are good, i have incorporated them with small weight dumbells - 2kg and now 5. I have lost 8 kilos since I got out of hospital in January
that would be your fat burning tool

resistance training is as good, if not better to burn body fat more so than cardio depending on body mass %

more muscle you build = more fat it consumes and burns as a fuel source when not training

as you start losing weight, its easier to manipulate your meals in what you eat

I've been fairly lucky, as I've already started to drop weight despite not doing anything spectacular to improve my diet.

Kimchi is the answer. Kimchi.

Kimchi is never the answer. Gim bop, maybe, but never kimchi.

I have been heavy resistance training for about 8 weeks. 20mins on an elyptical trainer then about 80-90mins weights, rotating focus on shoulders/arms/chest, with some legs and gut work thrown in every session.

Have dropped 1kg (to 122.... :sarcasm: ) but have dropped a belt notch and am shrinking noticably where I want to, and shoulders/arms/chest are way bigger/stronger already.

plus it sure is alot more interesting than being on a treadmill for 45minutes at a time.

I can confirm that what Spider is saying works. I dropped 12kg and have easily doubled my fitness.

And Gorilla, there are going to have to be some changes but here are a few tips and you can choose which ones take.

1. If you don't want to change what you eat perhaps change when you eat it. Less at night and minimise carbs at night. Good size breakfast and lunch with a few snacks in between.
2. It may be that taking one or two things out of your diet will help. I dropped about 4 kgs once by simply cutting out the once a day chocolate bar and the biscuits at morning and afternoon tea. I was exercising at the time as well though. But there may also be other less obvious things that are keeping the kilos on like how much oil you may cook with. A lot of recipes call for 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil when I get away with a few seconds of the spray oil or simply none at all and substitute it with stock, soy sauce or balsamic vinegar depending on the dish.
3. There are plenty of sites on the net that will help you work out what your calorie intake should be. If you aim for about 80-90% of you recommended daily intake you will slowly lose the weight.
4. Dietry changes will give you the best results but exercise helps as well. A few 30-40 minute sessions a week will help. In the morning is good as at gets the metabolism going.

I am bored out of my head after 45 minutes on the treadmill, even with the computer playing a movie or some wrestling. But I don't have much free time during the week to do anything else, and no gym to do it in, anyway.

A few years back, I basically borrowed some ideas from Weight Watchers and managed to lose about 5kgs in fairly short order without adding much exercise to my life. An occasional walk along the beach was it - but I lost weight very quickly. I was unemployed then, though, so I had a lot of free time on my hands to spend on making a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Sorry for hijacking your thread but no real need to start a new 1. i only want to lose about 5kgs. is there anyway i can achieve this this without changing my diet too much or increasing excercise? Just little tips would be appreciated

do it for 5-8 days, you'll drop 5-10kgs.
first 2 days are hell, day 3 gets considerably easier, it's all downhill from there.

Do you put it all back on super fast as soon as you stop the program?
Well that depends. Some may; I didn't.
It's supposed to help your eating habits ie, shrinking your stomach, help you to eat 'til you're satisfied; not 'til you feel "full" etc. Like i said, worked for me.

Weight loss if overweight : average 3-6kg in 10 days
thats becuase the body drops its water retention rapidly in the first fortnight - muscles start absorbing fluid, body excretes as well

weight loss of 5kg would be normal in that early time frame if diet is spot on and regular exercising is being done in the correct manner

but everyone is different

Based loosely on whats already been said here, if you took your standard eating habits & flipped them, well essentially ate dinner for breakfast & say a bowl of cereal for dinner, would you go some way to a loss of weight?

I've often wondered when they say eat less at night if this would work. My GF travels Europe quite regularly & has made mention that quite a few cultures will make time for a substantial breakfast, moderate lunch but have a meagre dinner. Well compared to most Aussie households anyway.

My biggest meal of the day definitely is breakfast in terms of calories. I still eat a fair amount for dinner but 2/3rds of it are vegies.
