GIO schoolboy cup/throphy

There is an article on SMH about this Scots basketball team. Apparently the whole comp is going to forfeit to them. They even have a sports scientist at the school. One of Danky's proteges

Interesting times: I believe it is time the legislators moved in and put school sports back where it should be in the education system - one of the many development tools for teenagers into society, not a win at all cost ethos.

I hope the situation that is now occurring within the GPS school association doesn't occur in the diocese catholic system - time to take stock: Pats, Doms and Gregs.

Goodbye to the State Sport High Schools and the Keebra Park Specilaised Rugby League Training Centre (it is a bloody high school for christsake, not a centre of excellence for rugby league).

Where and when did this get so f**ked up.

You are a bit of a dope, do you believe all the scholarship holders and other talented footballers at Pats have made it to the NRL or a professional level.

I assure you not, leaving many of these kids and their families extremely disappointed.

Getting a scholarship certainly would help improve education as St Pats isnt full of dopey teachers.. They dont just let them play if they are failing at school..

You seem to have a personal vendetta against this school. .

4. Well, their scholarship to one well known junior footballer (i'm sure, Kennan knows who I mean) was not enough to stop this talented junior footballer swapping scholarships and schools from Doms to Pats.

So what does this tell you? That St Pats have more cash hotter teachers? Better facilities for his future??

I wish I was as thick as two planks of wood to understand why and how you think your way would work
.

Btw St Gregs where bringing players in during early 2000's oh dont forget parra marist had a mate go their from st pats prob should call someone about that..

1: I will mention only one ex-student here (well he was part-time, anyway; turned up to train and play) - A Kelly

2: Read my posts, dopey. I'm against the current system.

1: Hit the nail on the head.

2: Didn't you say, no dopey teachers; obviously didn't help you. It is there.

Ill make sure I send auto correct back to school...

So how do you know they have more cash??

I've noted my position:
  • no sport scholarships
  • no Sport high Schools (private or public)
  • no specilaised rugby league (or any other sport) training centres within schools
  • re-introduction of competitive zone competitions into all schools across all sports.
Not much more I can say.

You forgot to mention if that were the case....that parents can only enroll their kids in there local school?

& then your next agenda will be kids in the district can only play HM & SGBALL for the district they reside?

No dude, I clearly stated there would/can be no financial sport scholarships to entice pupils to certain schools.

Big difference.

So take away scholarships & these kids still wish to attend these schools, you wouldn't have an issue?

None at all, as long as there are no under the table deals (such as, NRL clubs paying their fees etc).

If the club wishes to provide the player/family with some financial assistance and the family wishes to pay private school fees for their son/daughter that is their business. As along as the assistance provided by the club doesn't say or demand, you must go to school here or at a certain school - no dramas.

Overseas/interstate players can apply for scholarships

As I previously said, why are we (Australia) educating Kiwis. NZ is not a 3rd world country.

Keebra Park should not be a centre of excellence for rugby league; it should be a high school - that plays sport as a component of educating teenagers into society.

No sport scholarships for any schools (private or public) and no specialised selective sport high schools. they have failed sport in this country: examples - the Wallabies and our national cricket side.

Not taking away anything from Keebra, they are a talented squad BUT I am now curious of how many of that team were from NZ/Interstate? & how many are from the district.

I can understand your point M4E but how can the necessary changes be implemented. It seems it will be quite a battle

Someone tweeted the other day that 10 of the 17 started high school at Keebra. But that doesn't mean much. Pretty sure Marion Seve was born in Australia/is a local.

It would be need to be the state governments as they legislate for secondary education.

First step should be the rescinding of the selective state sports high schools and an overall ban on sport scholarships.

Schools and sports within schools need to be taken back to what it should be. If clubs or professional sport bodies wish to do extras with talented juniors; it needs to be after and outside of school.

I know he is contracted to Wests Tigers - thought he was kiwi, but could be wrong.
