I love Boof. Knows his cricket. Knows wat he is doing. Seems like the perfect bloke for the Aussie team.
I like Boof but it wasn't Maxwell's fault that Bailey played a dreadful shot, Wade batted like an unco that couldn't hit the side of a barn, or Smith playing an ordinary shot. Criticism of Maxwell is fair...but what about these 3...they were equally as bad!
Wades innings at 3 after a decent start was the reason the lower order had to be scoring at nearly 10 an over. And Locky i thought Smith was one of the few that got a decent ball.
Wade is Haddins replacement and they could (should) try other keepers after this summer, less said the better on him
Not making excuses but Bailey was dumped seconds earlier from the test squad to SA, plus hasn't been afforded the luxury of a rest as the prima donnas have. Plus he has been outstanding with the bat in one dayers for a while and can afford a cheap shot once in a blue moon.
Smith has just made it back in the side at the last minute. He should have played a better dig, but crucifying the guy puplically on his first game back is a bit rich
Maxwell hasn't has many disruptions and been part of the set up for a while in the shorter forms , and its time he stood up and contributed to a win. He also threw his wicket away in game 2 (when Faulkner got us home). Id say Lehmann has had enough and wants him to contribute a lot better if he is batting in the top 6. Could be on notice if he keeps up what he is doing
'No different to a cover drive,' says batsman
Returning T20 star Glenn Maxwell has defended his decision to attempt the reverse sweep in Australias second Test defeat in the UAE, explaining it was part of an overall strategy to reduce the pressure being built by the Pakistan spinners.
Maxwell, who will tonight turn out in green and gold at the MCG for the second KFC T20 International, was pilloried by some for opting to play the unorthodox sweep in circumstances that appeared to demand conservative batting, as Australia attempted to save the Test.
But the Victorian argued the tactic was a carefully considered one, which had the support of Australias coaching staff.
"On a fourth- and fifth-day wicket you need to put the pressure on the bowlers and get rid of those bat pads, Maxwell told Fairfax.
My plan was to try to get rid of those guys as early as possible in my innings and hopefully get into my innings and make it easier to get singles and manipulate the field. Unfortunately it didn't quite come off.
"They back me to play that reverse sweep no matter what the situation of the game. They understand for me that it's no different from a cover drive for any other batter.
They have instilled confidence in me to play that shot and they have seen it come off time and again.
They accept the fact that for me it's a normal shot, it's no different from someone else getting beaten in defence.
My best form of defence is attack anyway, so they would much rather me go out playing my natural game than defending and getting caught at bat pad.
Former Test captain Allan Border believes Maxwell will be instrumental in Australias World Cup campaign, which begins next Friday (November 14) at the WACA Ground in Perth.
"I think Glenn Maxwell is on the threshold of a breakout period," Border said. "He's got the talent, the skills.
It's just sort of corralling all that when he's out in the middle.
This could be his season to really break free and really show the multi talents that he's got.
What a complete f**kwit
