Yep, because I'd rather win the League Cup and finish 8th in the league than be competing for the league title up until the last day...

Yet it's still a pub comp that was beyond some of the teams who finished above Liverpool, who themselves finished with more silverware than Man United, Arsenal, Newcastle, Spurs and the Bitters...

I think City focusing on the Premier League is better than Carling Cup.

Haha celebrating the Carling Cup.

How many points did Lolerpool finish behind United? Wasn't it something stupid like 38.

This is obviously for Liverpool fans but when you guys were competing with United for the title in 08/09(?) would you guys have preferred to finish 8th, 40 points behind 1st, with the Carling Cup or finish 2 points behind, or however many it was, in second?

Who gives a shit.

Souffs have won more comps than anyone and they've got 15000 posts dedicating to laughing at them.

And also, day in the sun? They won the Carling Cup ffs.

Winning the Carling Cup means Liverpool will be playing European football again next season, so I don't see how it counts for nothing. Obviously winning the title and playing in the CL (winning it even?) is much bigger, but getting silverware in any given season is a bonus.

Obviously it counts for something. Every cup is worth something.

But it's a dark day (for your fans i mean, neutrals couldn't care less) when a club as big as yours qualifies for the EUROPA LEAGUE only because you won a trophy as irrelevant as the Carling Cup.

I'll ask again, would you rather come second and win nothing or 8th and win the Carling Cup?

And as for this, during the season definately prefer to be in the running for the title, but in the end nobody remembers second so any cup is better than finishing 2nd with no cup (even if it is lame like the carling cup)

Not really.

Its not a question of where you end up in my opinion. Its more where you want to be at the start. Next season City, United, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea fans are all aiming to win the league. Obviously only one team can, but thats what we want.

Liverpool fans seem to be hoping for at best to scrape into the Europa and will celebrate a league cup like it means anything. If any of the above teams had played more than reserve teams in the comp it may be worth something.
Its terrible for a club like Liverpool to be thinking like this, and for any fans of the club to even pretend this season was not one big cluster f*ck. More to the point, next season what will change. Maybe Newcastle won't be so high, but will 6th be considered a good season?

Anyways, this is the United forum.

Who will get Owens number 7 shirt? Young? Nani? Viva Ronaldo (get him on plane, bring him back from Spain)?

Young or maybe Kagawa or any other midfielder that's bought in, assuming one's signed that is...

p.s. We won the Community Shield. Last I checked, it's a trophy (and you only get to compete for it by winning the League or the FA Cup, or by being runner up if a team does the double).

Birmingham won the Carling Cup last season, would you prefer have the season they had last season or the season United had this year?

Try convince Hazard, M'Villa or Kagawa to go to Liverpool with the Carling Cup. See what happens.
