I thought i would share the newsletter from the mighty BOP Steamers and Chiefs with you peasants (and f**king jaffas  )

Happy New Year to all BoP Mafia members. Here's hoping 2005 is even better than 2004, if it is we're going to have a great time. The Mafia was formed just before the 2003 NPC season, since then the Steamers rose from last place to 5th, the Chiefs made the Super 12 semis for the first time then the Steamers won the Shield for the first time and made the NPC semis for the first time. Coincidence? I think not! Awards have streamed in for the team, the Steamers won the Peoples Choice Team of the Year and Vern Cotter was nominated for coach of the year. Vern won the BoP Times Person of the Year and Wayne Ormond won the Mafia Player of the Year (as well as a lesser award for overall NPC Player of the Season!!).

So what does 2005 hold in store for us. Well the BoP Chiefs are coming to
Rotorua on 17th February for a pre-season game against the Highlanders. Now these are usually pretty dull affairs, with multiple interchanges and no
real passion to the game but in this case we, the Mafia, need to make a big
effort to be there watching the game. With Super 14 coming in 2006, the
Chiefs will have an extra home game each season and we have to have at least one game in the Bay and hopefully one each for Tauranga and Rotorua. Money talks so we have to make sure that such games are well attended and we can start with this pre-season game. There are 9 players from the Bay in the Chiefs squad (and Sorensen about to make it 10 with the continued absence of Keith Robinson). This is a good time to list all the major fixtures for the season.

All home games for the BoP Chiefs are in Hamilton this season unfortunately.

Chiefs

Saturday 24 Sept Southland v STEAMERS
Saturday 1 October Waikato v STEAMERS
Saturday 8 October STEAMERS v Northland

Many big days for the Mafia to prepare for. Obviously the Lions game will behuge so I hope you are all in the ballot for tickets. Still a few months to
go, but this game will get a lot of attention being the first of the tour,
and we want to make sure we aren't out-shouted by the Lions fans. We are still to find a recognisable Steamers chant so all ideas are welcome. Come the day, we want to make sure that all Mafia are gathered in one place.

The draw has just been released for the NPC and again we have the first
Shield challenge, down in Christchurch. Again their All Blacks should be
away and revenge would be sweet for the 2 defeats they inflicted on us last year. Auckland come to town on the 4th September and we make the trip over the Kaimais on the 1st October.

Finally, just before Christmas we received an email from Wayne Ormond
addressed to all the Mafia. Here it is.

----
"Kia Ora Mafia supporters,
Firstly, my apologies for not attending the first annual mafia awards. That
particular night i had whisked my partner of twelve years away to finally
get married. It was a relatively small wedding with just our close whanau
and friends as we only had three weeks to plan. With rugby it is often hard
to plan committments like a wedding as we never know for sure where we will even be so yep we finally squeezed it in before i was off again and training back in Hamilton.
But I just wanted to say that us boys out there appreciate all you do for
us. Without you, our life out on that field would be alot harder. Your
cheers of support make me want to knock over every player in my way! So roll on next season, my feet are already scratching to get out on a field again.
I am excited about our chiefs season approaching and being able to play with all the bay boys but it will be strange without Jacko. And then we can all get excited about the upcoming Lions tour. What a huge year, can't wait!
Once again a huge thankyou from myself, the boys and my family for being there for us. We couldn't do it without you.
Merry Christmas and enjoy a safe and happy new year

Wayne and Yvonne Ormond, Te Kahui-o-te-Rangi and Raureti (my little ratbags who never miss a game)"
----

Cheers,
Nick for the Mafia
