Earth's orbit is elliptical which means the distance between Earth and the Sun constantly changes. The ellipse also constantly changes. The Earth is often thousands of kilometres closer to the Sun than we are right now and often thousands of kilometres father away.

The Earth's axial tilt also constantly changes as part of Precession. It increases and decreases over a (I think) 23,000 year cycle.

We happen to be able to live on Earth because it is old enough to have become relatively stable and it sits in the habitable zone. Mars is also inside the habitable zone and could have developed relatively complex life.

This is my take. I believe in God. However I think religion and man himself has plenty to answer to. In the early days people were alot more gullible then they are today. Religion exploited this and kept people in line by creating rituals and basically franchises aimed at being powerful and profitable.

I am pretty sure that when Christ walked the earth he stated that you do not need an agent to talk to him. In other words you do not have to go to church and pray nor do you have to give money to get a better spot in heaven.

I am from the Orthodox faith (very similar to Catholicism). The only main difference is our priests are allowed to marry and we adopt the Julian Calendar as opposed to the Gregorian Calendar. Which I must say annoys me. There are plenty of bells and whistles in my religion. When you are a kid you don't care too much but when you get older you realise its just a symbloic and unnecessary show which was created to make money. It annoys me no end.

In my line of work I have seen plenty of evil things which continually questions my faith. You only have to watch the news and see the evil every day and think why all the suffering ?

If I go to the other end of the spectrum I think it is quite unrealistic to think all this happened by accident. It is simply not plausible. It is also very arrogant and ignorant of us to think we have all the answers. We simply don't. This is where I think some type of faith and hope comes in.

1. You haven't listened to a word I have said & I'm getting the impression you never will. Things are not random in a cause & effect environment. It is easy to say well if Item A didn't do this then we wouldn't exist therefore god made it so Item A would do it, because the alternative is Item A didn't do it and we wouldn't be here now. 2. Again haven't listened. There are only 3 real components to evolution. Time - do you believe time doesn't exist? Environment - more importantly change in the environment. Now unless Adam & Eve lived in a skyscraper, environmental change is evident even in the Bible. Finally natural selection - similar to your argument that everything is random. There's a group of fish that are eating sea plants. One day there isn't enough light to feed the plants and they all die. Now we'll divide the fish into 4 groups.
The fish that are least capable of finding other food - they die almost immediately.
The fish that can swim the furthest to find other plants - they survive and probably show signs of being able to survive longer periods without food.
The fish that can eat other substances such as dirt - they survive.
The fish that can eat other fish - they survive and become our first carnivores.
Now from just one environmental change and the length of time that it took for all the current food supply to die to the time where the fish were forced to find other food to survive, we have evolution naturally selected one group of fish to die and forcing another 3 to use particular attributes to survive.
