Haha make Gus NRL CEO? As stupid an idea as making a narcissist like Trump leader of the free world
Would be great for giggles though, NRL360 would have plenty to "discuss" and could be on every night!
I think Gould is getting a rough go here.
I know we all laugh about the 5 year plan and all that but the fact is Penrith have made the finals 4 out of the last 5 years, has this ever happened before? Certainly it hasn't in the NRL era.
I don't think it can be argued that he hasn't met his KPIs as an operations manager.
In the other half, he won a title in his first year as a coach.I agree. The last time Penrith had sustained success on field happened from 1988-1991:
1988: 5th
1989: 2nd
1990: 3rd (Grand finalist)
1991: 1st (Premiers)
Gould happened to be there for half of it as well.
Wests Tigers took the money and settled the matter then and there. You lot are just going to have to get over it. You were quite happy to poach the halfback we'd been developing since he was a kid. This is not what Penrith cub and fans have been saying for near 12 months. Cleary was under contract to the Tigers for another 2 seasons. It is of course the truth.
Speaks volumes of Cleary & O'Neill. Never thought that Gould would be the one to come out of this as the one with honour.
That does indeed appear to be the case.Maybe he indeed had f**k all to do with it.
Depends which angle you look at it from. In 1988 we didn't even make the finals (lost a playoff for 5th). In '89 we didn't win a final. We didn't win a finals match until 1990. Whereas in 2014-2016-2017-2018 we won finals each time. This is an unbroken sequence of 3 yrs and its not yet round 7.The last time Penrith had sustained success on field happened from 1988-1991:

Partly because he's publicly stated he doesn't want the job and partly because the future of the sport isn't something you just give someone a go on.
But hasn’t that been the NRL’s criteria for picking CEOs thus far?

Rather than make him CEO, which would be a bit much for him, create a position concerned with the future direction of the game. This seems to be where he is very strong, in vision. Allow him to remain at Nine, but make him aware now that he's writing columns again that what he writes will be regarded as the opinion of the NRL.Partly because he's publicly stated he doesn't want the job and partly because the future of the sport isn't something you just give someone a go on.

Thanks for taking it easy on me Ross, I appreciate that.John, Because you replied at midnight, I'll go easy on you.
Read my message that you quoted, and then tell me where I mention Parra or any new stadium.
I did mention ground in " worship the ground they walk on"
I hope you are "all there" enough not to be confused by that.
But yes, Parra did play well at the new stadium.

Weak bruh... Why you gota cut so deep? Can only hope he has as much success as Mary i guess.
Mate, I'm not going to say anything about Bankwest stadium. It looks great, but it was the scene of much devastation as a WT fan the other day. I'm nearly over it ( lie ). I do like wankbest. I used it over the weekend but was careful to pay credit to " some bloke on the forum" I shall be more specific from here. Credit where credit is due. Thanks for taking it easy on me Ross, I appreciate that.
I've noticed that you deal in subtle humour and thought you might have got the play on words between wankfest and Bankwest which is the only ground IMo worth worshiping.
It is true that I had had a few when i posted that and It's not as funny in the cold light of day.
I'll pull my finger out and try to do better next time.
I remember at the time of Murray being let go it was reported that Nick sought Goulds advice on what should be done to improve the club. It was also reported that he advised to get rid of Murray and install Stuart as coach. The next season Gould was back with the Roosters.Undermined Murray and Stuart at the Roosters?! ROFLMAO. He was not even involved with the Roosters when Murray was coaching there. Fact is some of the players fell out with Murray about things on the field, and the jeckyll and hyde type performances on field didn't help his cause, especially in 2001. We could win one week by around 20 points, then lose the next week by a similar margin. My club has a hard nosed board.
As to Ricky, he undermined himself. Gus left the Roosters years before Stuart did. Stuart's problem was not using his interchange properly (e.g. 2003 Grand Final, Ned Catic played a whole 7 minutes), he rarely blooded any youngsters, and he never adequately filled wholes in the side when players left or retired (e.g. Jason Cayless and Brad Fittler). Fact is Ricky got full control, including over recruitment and retention, which is why Arthur Beetson walked out of the club when he did. Stuart stuffed the club up and left it in a mess.
Can you give examples?
