Extremely sad news. He died way too early. They are right in this case when they say that they good die young. He built the basis for the 2002 Roosters team. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts go out to his family.

My dad knew him through his days at Cabramatta so he's not in the best of spirits at the moment. Such a sad day for Rugby League. RIP Muzz.

RIP Muzz.

Always remembered by Chooks fans for building our team in the early 2000s.
Our premiership success in 2002 can be credited a lot to Graham.

So sad to hear about the loss of Murray. Gone too early.

I was unaware of his health problems, but still not happy that he has passed on. RIP.

RIP Muzz, for any nth qlders that were part of the 03-05 era it will always be a very special period of our lives and we have you to thank.

I was in my first year of uni in 05 and my brother was still based in Tvlle in the army. My folks flew up to spend the weekend and of course me being a uni student who did 40 odd contact hours a week and worked sat & sun every weekend and was still stupidly poor i couldn't go and so unbeknown to me they decided on my 18th bday present while they were together and bought me a new jersey and took it to a team signing a week before the GF. You can imagine what the lineup was like at the shopping centre (as 15000 more people tend to suddenly appear as soon as we are doing well) and so by the time they got to the front to get the jersey signed some of the boys had to bugger off and go to their physio appointments. My brother managed to catch muzz's attentiona s he walked past and explained what they were doing to surprise me with a framed signed GF team jersey for my 18th bday and been supporting them since day 1 and was doing it pretty tough in uni so he grabbed the jersey off my brother, took it with him after the signing to the boys getting treatment and made them sign it, then signed it himself and personally mailed it back to my brother.

A special bloke that NQ will never forget.

Gutted about this. Not just that Muz has been taken before his time, but also the monumental f*ck up by the press in declaring him dead before he passed. A f*cking disgrace. The great man deserved better.

He was the first genuinely great coach i saw at Leeds. Brought the best out of the likes of Morley and McDermott and set forth a culture at the club from which they are still reaping the benefits. Always a friendly face with the press and a hugely likable personality.

Rest in peace Graham

Very sad to hear.

One of my favourite coaches as he took teams higher than expected, especially the Cowboys.

I remember the days of the Steelers and they upset the Broncos twice in 1992, (one that got their first ever title, the Tooheys Challenge).

Also were robbed of a spot in the Grand Final that year.

I think he was named Coach of the year that year, and rightly so.

I remember when he first took over the Cowboys they were getting beat by 40 a few times that year but they really improved under his coaching.

They were an exciting team to watch and almost made the finals in 03, but finally got their in 2004. They werent just there to make up the finals, those semis against Canterbury and Brisbane were amazing and to almost get to the Grand Final against one of the top sides was a huge effort.

Credit to Murray for getting the Cowboys to the GF in 2005, even though it was them that knocked us out. :(

Correct me if Im wrong but did he coach the Panthers lower grades at some stage?

Anyways a good bloke off the field and will be sadly missed in Rugby League.

RIP Graham Murray.:(

He coached the 1987 Panthers reserve grade to a winning grand final against Manly 16-0.

He was instrumental in the development of the players that eventually played in the 1990 Grand Final then went on to win the Panthers 1991 Grand Final although he had left Penrith to coach at Illawarra by then.

That 1991 Grand Final was as much as Graham's as it was anyone elses who was connected to the Panther family.

The best coach never to have won a Grand Final.

RIP Muz, I was thrilled the day you decided to join the Knights as one of our assistant coaches because I knew you were a true gem in the rugby league world. Everything you touched turned to gold. Sadly you had to leave our club after a short period of time because of your health and now it has come to this. You were one of the true gentlemen of our game. RIP.
