Sharks junior reps have done great in the last 4 seasons winning SG Ball, Matts and Flegg.

with our smaller junior base. shouldn't you guys be a powerhouse?

Hmmm

Dragons - Debt repaid? Check
Dragons - Smart enough to borrow from NRL without paying interest? Check
Dragons - jersey sponsor? Check
Dragons - salary cap compliant? Check?
Dragons - Rich Leagues Club with no debt and asset rich? Check
Dragons - Billionaire owner of 50% of club? Check
Dragons - Received higher payments from NRL due to willingness to merge? Check

Sharks - Debt repaid? No (btw your debt is to our major sponsor so thanks for helping to fund our team)
Sharks - Smart enough to borrow from NRL without paying interest? No (See above, thanks again for helping fund our club we welcome your patronage and look forward to future contributions towards our financial stability)
Sharks - Jersey sponsor? No
Sharks - Salary Cap Compliant? No
Sharks - Rich leagues club with no debt? No
Sharks - Billionaire owner? No
Sharks - Received higher payments from NRL due to willingness to merge? No

Seems to me we would foot the bills of the Sharks through diligent management and normal commercial business which since 1999 has seen our financial position improve and has seen the Sharks get worse. Something like:

1) Approach the NRL and say we are happy to take the Sharks off their hands and remove the embarrassment on the game.

2) Obtain loan funding from NRL based on a structured business plan and a history of repaying debt rather than simply making it larger.

3) Seek dispensation for salary cap problems again based on demonstrating history from previous merger of being able to manage salary cap problems from merger of clubs.

4) Negotiate a deal with our major sponsor to pay out your debts,

5) Add a small text of CSFC in black to the back of our jerseys just below the collar (see the Swans jersey where they have SMFC as a reference)

6) Schedule a third of our games in Cronulla and apply rigour and structure to repay debt.

7) Sack Paul Gallen

8) Give Dugan back a nice Red and White Jersey and support environment that doesn't load up his mental issues and cause him to have a break down

9) Sell the old Sizzler site in Kogarah to realise capital

10) Increase equity ownership of redevelopment of land in the shire

11) Rake in money from redevelopment due to redued debt and increased euity on development

12) Build a bespoke league stadium at Dragon Park in the shire that seats 25,000

That is the simple model of how we afford to foot your bill.

Only SGI can deliver normality to the Sharks while at the same time gaining approval from the NRL:
  1. In taking over the Cronulla Sharks SGI can return rugby league in the district to it's former roots and un-matched greatness. The original members of the Board of Cronulla Sutherland Sharks used to be members to St George before braking away to form the Sharks. It is clear that over time the project was not so successful.
  2. The NRL is urgently looking to expand but reluctant to add new licenses at this time. SGI have proved to be a credible entity to join with another existing licensee and overcome all difficulties to prevail and remain viable despite circumstances that most probably would see the end of most licence holders. The NRL would have another chance to expand without issuing an additional licence if SGI took over Cronulla Club, ground and assets.

St George Illawarra couldn't ensure one of their rented grounds were up to scratch for a f**king trial. You're gonna acquire the Sharks club, ground and assets? Ya's were $6M in the hole to the governing body until late last year.

In the extremely unlikely event we lost our license to participate in the NRL, why would we sign our ground and assets over?

Liquidation, NRL take the licence and SGI take the rest. The necessary funds raised by the sale of St George SGI shares to an investor with deep pockets an the further investment in SGI by WIN Corp.

Its an interesting discussion, however I doubt a fine of say $250k and $600 to $700 cap reduction spread over 2 years, would make any difference to tfe Sharks, except letting maybe one player go. Maybe the NRL would be keen to see someone like Ava move from sharks to Dragons. Kinda solves another part of their problem with Dragons needing to fix a hole in their roster.

Anyway, see what happens today

Sorry, I was of the understanding that the Sharks were in financial trouble outside of their problems with the NRL.

Hmmm:

1. Flanagan and his association with Stephen Dank with 12 players admitting guilt.

2. Flanagan's subsequent ban and now disqualification (can we never again have a Flanagan for coach thread).

3. Numerous (as in many more than one) breaches of the salary cap.

4. A club that is "technically" broke and supported by the NRL.

5. A club that has been the preferred destination for a slew of questionable characters including Gallen, Bird, Fafita, Ennis, Barba and Dugan.

You start to query the validity of their 2016 premiership. How far over salary cap were they in 2016? And despite knowing they are over the salary cap they go and sign Shaun Johnson showing scant regard for the NRL processes. Time to hit these clowns really hard because they are virtually giving the NRL the middle finger every year.

Great Club Cronulla - Aren't They?

Two further points:

One stand at the Sharks home ground....whatever it’s called these days....is dedicated to a self confessed adulterer (Ettingshausen), and another one is named after an ex Dragons’ player who took part in six premierships with that club and bugger all at Cronulla (Monty Porter).

Yes CSFC (or Curious Supplements Football Club), are a REAL credit to the sport.

Not a big deal, we can change the name of those stands.

NRL own the NRL license and brand. But the stadium is owned separate to any of that, we don't rent like everyone else, we're home owners. StG Illawarra are like a kid whose parents got divorced spending every other weekend somewhere different.

Our stadium would be sold to developers, not merged May premiers.

Ya's couldn't afford it anyway. So moot point.

What the f**kuk are you having a go at us for merging. You wankers merged with Sutherland from day one - are you not known as Cronulla Sutherland?.

What? Tried quoting twice and still f**ked it up. Keep on keepin on, dickhead. The mighty Cronulla Sutherland Sharks will.

The Sharks won't get a say, it will be in the hands of the liquidator who will go for the best price. Developers normally do not pay a premium for land especially if it has a stadium which will need demolition.

However, it would be not big deal if the Southern Dragons did not get the ground. They would be happy ridding the district of the scum and re-admitting junior league clubs back to the Dragons/Saints.

Cronulla CEO Barry Russell will resign from his post with a "broken heart" once the club is salary cap compliant after a tumultuous 12 months in the role.

Russell has overseen one of the most drama-filled years in the club's history, his self-reporting of salary cap discrepancies last year resulting in an NRL investigation that ended in a $1.25 million fine and a $707,000 cap penalty spread over the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Russell's bid to get on the front foot effectively saved the club $500,000, with the six-figure amount suspended from their NRL fine.
Premiership-winning coach Shane Flanagan has also been deregistered indefinitely by head office, following evidence of him breaching the terms of his 2014 ban and repeatedly corresponding with the club found during the Sharks salary cap investigation.

Both the Sharks and the NRL are confident the club will be $353,000 below the cap by round one, and possibly as early as this week, with Russell to step down on April 1.

"It has been a very tough 12 months, both for the club and for me personally," Russell said via a club statement.

"When I made the decision to self-report a salary cap discrepancy last year with the full approval of the board, I most certainly did not foresee all the issues that were to follow.

"As hard as it has been I did however remain committed to seeing the club through these challenging times and set a new course of proper governance and integrity.

"I'm proud that I've been able to clean this mess up and give the club every chance of success."

As well as coaching and salary cap dramas Cronulla have been without a major sponsor for much of Russell's tenure, off-field issues among the playing group contributing to the club's struggles to find a major backer.

That finally changed at the weekend with Ace Gutters coming on board as the Sharks' front-of-jersey sponsor for the next two years.

The club has also struggled financially for some time, posting $3 million losses in both 2017 and 2018, prompting Russell and the club into 12 redundancies amid fears for Cronulla's long-term future.

With fringe forward Ava Seumanafagai currently weighing up a three-year offer from Leeds and former salary cap auditor Jamie L'Oste Brown advising the club, Cronulla are hopeful of having their roster in order well before their March 15 trip to Newcastle.

Should Seumanafagai's exit not free up the requisite cap space to bring a minimum wage replacement into their top 30 squad, the futures of James Segeyaro, and others such as Chad Townsend and the Brailey brothers Jayden and Blayke could come under a cloud.

The Sharks board is expected to announce an interim replacement for Russell ahead of a recruitment process, with John Morris's rookie coach status likely to expedite the search.

"We are now through this very difficult period and I believe the time is right for the club to have a fresh start and be taken forward in a new direction," Russell said.

"A new CEO will have the opportunity to start with a clean slate, alongside our talented new head coach John Morris, and build the best structure possible to lead the club forward without any negative remnants from the past 12 months."

Another one bites the dust.

It's not the sharks fault. When you have Dugan playing for you your bubble wrap budget is through the roof.

Its gotten so bad Fifita could only afford half a haircut.

We should use the DeBelin money to take Fifita off Cronulla's hands.
