There have been some awesome club teams in the last 25 years. Canberra, Newcastle, Melbourne, ect..but can anyone top the 2001 Broncos lineup?

Scott Prince
Ben Ikin
Shaun Berrigan
Wendell Sailer
Lote Tuqiri
Darren Lockyer
Justin Hodges
Michael Be Vere
Chris Walker
Gordon Tallis
Petero Civoniceva
Shane Webke
Luke Priddis
Dane Carlaw
Carl Webb
Ashley Harrison
Corey Parker
Brad Meyers

You gotta admit, that was a strong outfit on paper...how did they not win the comp?

Any other teams line-up ya reckon can compare to that?

1993 Raiders, the Melbourne side of the last 2 years I think may end up being comparable

Broncos had a lot of injuries that year.

A few of the greatest lineups off the top of my head from the 90's to now.

Raiders 1994
Manly 1996
Broncos 1992-93 and 1997-98
Storm 2007-08

I'd say the best lineup out of them (not being bias either) probably 1998 broncos, I don't think too many people would disagree ?

That is a solid squad. Though to answer your question a lot of those blokes were very young and didn't hit their straps till years later. Parramatta's squad was just as impressive in '01, and i'm not going to ask why they didn't win...

Brett Hodgson
Luke Burt
Pat Richards
Eric Grothe (released midway through the season)
Scott Donald
Jason Moodie
David Vaealiki
Jamie Lyon
Michael Buettner
Jason Taylor
Daniel Wagon
Chad Robinson
Nathan Hindmarsh
Ian Hindmarsh
Andrew Ryan
David Solomona
Jason Cayless
Nathan Cayless
Alex Chan
Gary Larson
Michael Vella
Brad Drew
PJ Marsh
Daniel Irvine

and probably a couple of others I've forgotten. But as I said dont ask why we didn't win...

You could pick any of the Brisbane sides between 1997 and 2001 and also the Manly sides of 95 to 97 were also jam packed with stars.

The Premiers of pretty much every year have had similar quality rosters based on form. Melbourne Storm have done the best job of keeping a quality team though. Panthers had an awesome team in 2003, with all of our players being in career best form at the time.

Panthers 2003:
1. Rhys Wesser (QLD)
2. Luke Lewis (NSW, Australia, City)
3. Ryan Girdler (NSW, Australia, City)
4. Paul Whatuira (New Zealand)
5. Luke Rooney(NSW, Australia, City)
6. Preston Campbell (Country) would have played for NSW if he wasn't so small
7. Craig Gower (NSW, Australia (c), City) should have been Dally M Player of the Year
8. Joel Clinton (Australia, City)
9. Luke Priddis (NSW, Australia, Country)
10. Martin Lang (QLD)
11. Joe Galuvao (New Zealand)
12. Tony Puletua (New Zealand)
13. Scott Sattler (QLD)

14. Ben Ross (QLD)
15. Trent Waterhouse (NSW, Australia, City)
16. Shane Rodney (City)
17. Luke Swain

That was an awesome team. Luke Swain was the weakest link IMO. That team in form would still be up the top of the ladder. Unfortunately a lot of those players retired in either 2003 or 2004, and others were forced out of our team thanks to the salary cap. The rest have become a shadow of the players they were in 2003, except for Luke Lewis who has turned into an awesome utility player.

The others probably looked great compared to the players around them... but Drew was outstanding in 2001 though. He'd have to be up there as one of the greatest 'One season wonders' in history. Actually not a bad idea I might start a thread on that.
