Just heard it voiced on the footy show the idea that Greg Bird wants to to come home when his contract with the Titans expires and see out his career with the Knights.

Thoughts??

I swear I read this hear about a week ago..

Sounds alright to me, but I can't wait to hear about someone who isn't a back rower signing with us..

Happily have him. I wanted him when it was rumoured he might come to us for 2012.

9. Buderus
10. Snowden
11. Scott
12. Houston
13. Bird

14. Costigan
15. Taia
16. Sims
17. McKinnon

Bird can move to 5/8 and Gidley to hooker to sub Bedsy.

Costigan and McKinnon (if he puts on another 5kg as expected) can play prop with Sims off the bench.

If Birdy comes home we will have the best backrow in the comp. Beau and Bird will unleash the pain. I expect Mase to be fully re-signed for a couple more years after this one unless a major hiccup occurs.

As previously mentioned do we really need another back rower?

TBH I don't think Bird has been all that good over the last couple of years, he looks good at the Titans because they really don't have a lot of creative players on their roster and he is one of their go to guys, but I'm just not convinced.

Granted he'd probably be a walk up start in our forward pack, but I'd be concerned that he'd want big dollars (especially it probably being his last contract) how old is he? I'd hazard a guess that he's pushing 30, and seeing as it's rumoured that Scott is coming here for about 400k a season, you'd think Bird would see himself as worth about that much too. I know it's expected that the cap is going to go up, but instead of throwing money at a guy close to the end of his career (and in a position that is arguably our strongest) we should be trying to get a guy who is in his prime, or just about to hit it anyway.

haha god damn. what a pack!

i would definitely have Bird back at the club. he's a big game player, an absolute talent. i think most teams in the comp would happily have Bird at lock. forget surplus of backrowers, if a local the calibre of Greg Bird wants to come home, you can make room. he's 27, 28 in october. still plenty of good years left, especially for a forward.

make it happen, Tinks. keep bringing 'em home.

I would put Bird in the top few locks in the competition.
definitely. he's probably even higher up the list if you're talking big games like finals and whatnot. he's one bloke you know is going to have a red hot dig to take the game by the scruff of the neck when the chips are down.

Go have a look at his stats last year from Round 19 onwards when Harrison got injured and he moved to lock. He missed a couple of games because of a broken hand but it's bloody impressive reading, and doesn't even reflect the classy ballplaying and aggression he also brings. Such a shame he doesn't play there all the time.

We may have a surplus of backrowers, but none of them are matchwinners. If he's availaible sign him up. Get rid of Eddy and Taia in the process.

Agree that his best position is 13

Id go as far to say that if he didnt leave the Sharks he would have forced Gallen into the frontrow well before Sticky moved him there for game 2 of SOO last year.

In a forward pack with a huge amount of workers - Harrison, Bailey, Minichiello, Myles - he still manages to get 20 touches a game and average 130m.

He'd be touching the ball 30 times a game and making 200m, Gallen like stats, if he played in our side while our forwards dawdle behind the ruck.

Bird coming would all depend on money for mine. Obviously a top player, but i think we could do with strengthening up some other positions. It would depend on whether it will cost us a more important signing or not. I'm sure that the guys making decisions would know this though.

I have seen Bird most games live at Skilled Park. By far he is most effective down the left edge. Whilst he can play lock and get his hands on the ball more, he would be just as effective as the left edge forward.

He has been killing it at the Titans with great go forward. He should be a must to sign if the price is right.

People won't agree with this but I personally would have a hard time cheering for him.

However, as far as his talent and what he brings to a team on the field, there are no doubts he'd make the team more dangerous.

If we have House, Bird, Scott, Costigan, Mckinnon in our backrow. That would make 2 current NSW forwards, 1 ex (maybe not) maroons forward, 1 NSW 18th man and 1 U20s NSW forward. That's a bloody good forward pack!
