Being serious though, shame to see it end this way for GI if it is the case. One of the most freakish athletes to run out on a footy field. Had his share of off field dramas but will be go down in the "legend" category and hasn't been many like him.

Probably the most talented player behind Lockyer to never to win the Dally M. When spudfarmers like Hayne can win it twice and certified legends like Locky and Inglis don't, well that says a lot really.

He can get f**ked for leaving the Broncos high and dry though.

One amazing footballer. Shame if had to end like this. At his best he was virtually unstoppable.

Has had some massive battles the last few years. Wishing him well in retirement and I hope Souths/NRL help him transition into life after football.

re: Cap 'relief'

If he medically retires and Souths pay him the remainder of his contract, it should count.
If he quits his contract and Souths no longer pay him, it shouldn't count. Why would an imaginary salary count in the cap? Any other player that quits or is fired would immediately free up cap space.

Pretty simple. The cap is meant to count what clubs are actually paying.
When Matai or Stewart were medically retired, they still got paid their salary didn't they?

Who in their right mind walks away from $1.5m? Unless there’s incentive to, which means that incentive should count under the cap.

Ingli$ was a tremendous athlete, but Lockyer was a footballer. you can't put them together

Are you suggesting an anti Queensland bias?

Pretty sure Thurston once got 3 Dally M points for a Sharks vs Raiders game.
