Souths don't win that Premiership without S.Burgess.
Yes Inglis was 'a' key player as were others, but Burgess was the most important cog or 'the' key player in that side the year they won the comp. He goes off in the GF they lose.
Bullshit. Souths don't win a premiership without Inglis pure and simple.
When Sam announced his signing witg rugby Union it was stilla 50/50 whether he would be considered a flop. His first years with souths were plagued with injuries, suspensions., inconsistency and so many dropped balls. Halfway through 2014 many souths fans wanted him gone early. Then he had a good back half of 2014 and people forgot the years of frustration from sam.
Inglis first year with souths was ok, he took a while to settle, it was a young team he came into. Then 2012 we shifted him to fullback and the whole dynamic of the team shifted overnight. We suddenly had a dangerous player who could strike fear in the opposition. He would bring the ball back with power that it allowed guys like the burgess brothers to play against defence already on the back foot. Teams were sometimes so worried about Inglis that they over defended him and it gave others a chance to shine. He was consistently brilliant from 2012-2014 and it was Inglis not burgess who was talked up as the best player in the game at the time and led to this 'is he a future immortal' talk. If you were given a choice between burgess and inglis in the 2014 grand final then Inglis was a no brainer.
Souths are going poor this year and it's down to Inglis poor form. He is the key. If Burgess was the key you'd think we'd be winning games easily considering the bloke is making 160m+ per game and 40 odd tackles. But he isn't the key. He is great forward but he is useless unless you have great players around him.
We still make the finals in 2015, inglis is our best player by far. for most of the year we are in the top 4 before fading at the end of the year. You include burgess back into the team and suddenly we would be spoon chances if it wasn't for newcastle.
