It's a shame we didn't bring in these salary cap changes 10 years ago, then we would have pissed Souffs off for good.

I love lines like...we'll survive without SBW, Hunt and Folau.

Yeah no s**t but would we be better off without them?

No of course not.

I just learnt from the 20s to the 50s the NSWRL had a "player retention fund" that they used to make direct payments to our stars to keep them from going to the UK or bush clubs. So 60 f**king years ago we were more advanced and had more common sense than we do now in 2010. We were more professional then than we are now.

and souths were successful back then too...

how times have changed...

hmmm.. so there is a direct link there to external player payments and souths winning premierships....

and laughing at how we had to pay people not to go to "bush clubs"..

In those days the population was much less concentrated in Sydney than it is now. So relatively speaking it was much less stronger compared to regional areas. It wouldn't have been too hard for a team out there to put money together to buy a player from Sydney.

1) A need for an independent auditor without previous affiliations to other clubs. Let's be honest, Souths fans believed they got knocked back by an Easts auditor. If it was the other way around Easts fans would be angry as well. Whether it's true or not, the perception is there.

That's because Bunniesman is a simpleton.

Why is it that every time a player gets greedy, the administration is to blame? We dont have more money d*ckheads! What we have instead is a nice even competition which every team in the country has a chance of winning (besides the 3 years of purple scum, the greedy fat merkin was a part of). Thats what RL needs, not some overpaid fat boy.

Unfortunately this incident is reinforcing the truth , that Rugby league is a small game with limited audience and appeal.
we have "real" third party who are willing to pay a player to play and the NRL is cutting them down , because , because the club organised it versus the deal done by the player and his manager outside of the club. Please let me know any real third party deals where the player will get the money regardless of the club played for.
Also getting third parties to pay , well what is wrong with that , just means clubs need to work their communities and sponsorship. Oh , i forgot , the game is really small so not much opportunity there , right?
Anyway , all the small minds here who are knocking Crowe , Souths and Inglis , well you are welcome to opinion . However i feel sad because this incident reminds me
how small the game i like really is and how small minded the current NRL administrators are .
If Inglis is forced to walk away from the Souths deal , I will admire Crowe even more ,if he continues to stick with the game . Not sure what a real character and person of the world would want to take a kick from these short sighted folks and continue his efforts to bring souths a championship in this small sport.why does he bother i wonder

so how do you explain AFL which has zero relevance overseas and an even smaller population to market to yet can bring in heaps more $'s at the player, club and code level?

2 things, they are able to yield a higher return from their market and I am not totally convinced they have a smaller market, and infact they have a much larger active market (in members). I do think RL is a better sport though.

But I also think they are overpaying their players as well, yet they still are able to fund more than decent junior development as well

Based on NFL for example and a comparision of their market to NRL the average NRL salary should be around $60-70K

Get it through your thick head. He's not being greedy. Storm haven't paid him in months, to the tune of 270k. He has a mortgage to pay. His 2011 team still isn't allowed to pay him. So of course he's going to consider AFL. That doesn't make him greedy. We didn't make the 8 last year, if the cap lets us get Inglis it's working. It's making the comp more even.

The admisintration is to blame because it's a joke. It is out of it's depth, it doesn't know how to run a professional national sport in 2010.

Agree with almost every word. We have the greatest game in the world, but it is managed by fools.

He doesn't have a 2011 team because he walked out on one, and then another's officials promised him a contract they couldn't deliver on.

You keep going on how he loves league. Why doesn't he speak to parra before he speaks to AFL?

The only people who come out looking stupid are souths management and GI. It shows they are not capable of running a professional club in 2010. NRL officials look good for not letting him play for 190k, however, it does highlight that the salary cap isn't perfect.

What a load of bollocks.

We are talking about interpretations of 3PA's, that didn't pass muster at the NRL.

You want to talk about unprofessional clubs, and I can rattle off the clubs that lose money year after year, or those that have scandals coming out of their arses each year that tarnish the game.

The salary cap should be $8mill + $1mill allowed in 3rd party payments, the NRL IC should be paying for jnr development, toyota cup sides, travel and accommodation etc etc A club with an income of $15million should be able to afford $8million for players and clubs that can't rasie $15mill a year shouldn't be in the top league in the country, imo.

How far do you want to stick your head up your arse?

If parading around a player in training gear and announcing his signing on a talk show before his contract has been ratified is professional you have got rock bottom standards.

Trying to deflect onto other clubs has got nothing to do at all with Souths and how unprofessionally they handled this entire thing. Souths were completely arrogant, they sized up Inglis's training shirt before even lodging his contract details with the NRL.

Haooens all the timne. what doesnt happen all the time is the level of scrutiny over the third parties...which is where the hypocrisy lay
