Well, I will not argue with Hayne, he is the closest.

Jarryd is his only true rival @ rep level.

I would argue Greg is the standout at rep level over the 8 years, and he can take a team from close to true contender.

The fact Jarryd or Greg can play anywhere from 1-6 and still be the best player in the team does make them stand above the others you mention. Maybe not to you, but does to me

Slater is over rated, very good player, but has many limitations.

Thurston is a great halfback, but lack of premierships holds him back, it is not like the rest of team is crap, he has had the two Aussie front rowers.

Smith, best hooker of his generation.

It is not an argument, it is my opinion, feel free to disagree.
why does lack of premierships hold thursto back. won 1 with the dogs. did inglis only win when they were cheating?

Personally, what Hayne did the other year when he dragged an average team to the final eclipses anything Thurston has done.

Hayne was working behind a beaten pack, whereas Thurston works behind the Australian front row and still can't get it done.

IMO if I could chose one current player to join my team it would be Hayne.
But obviously if any of the names mentioned turned up instead I wouldn't complain. They are all good. :D

They're both champion players and playing in different positions they're asked to do different things. But they both do them well and I think they're equally as important to their teams as each other.

Stating one is "better" than the other is subjective and fairly pointless. They're both champions.

The biggest disappointment from my point of view is that Inglis "chose" to play for Queensland instead of the only State he should have been eligible to play for.

Having both Inglis and Thurston in the same side just seems, well unfair on the other team.

Ouchies (as my youngest daughter would say)

Thurston is a 1000x better footballer than Ingli$. Given he plays a more involved position, but I can't remember him ever going missing in a game.

Jt has gone missing plenty of times in the last 3rd of the season over past 5 years

Mr Angry, you're talking like you were proved right, but when was Inglis the best player in the world or "of his generation"?

The "Slater/Smith/Thurston/Inglis" generation has run for the last 8 years now and I've got Greg 4th in that group when discussing impact over that time.

Best in the world right now is probably Inglis' direct competitor, the slightly younger Jarryd Hayne- and that's not for the first time in their respective careers. Years from now people will still be arguing Hayne was better (the multiple Dally M's don't hurt).

I think you'll have a very hard time establishing that Inglis became the clear best player in the world like you said he would. He has only occasionally been regarded as such over the course of his career.

Smith yes, you could argue about the others

Thurston hasnt had much success in the NRl late in the season and at SOO level he has Inlgis outside of him who always gives Thurston room with the ball because of the eyes drawn towards him. But he had a good finsish this year so everyone has become a goldfish about the others. Ive said the past few years QLD have gotten quite lazy in there use of him but that is another discusussion (run another decoy for us please Gi)

As for Billy the only has 2 years he has been better then Greg and that was in 08 and 11, and thats only at NRl level

Ha! That's the world's longest bow right there.

I could easily flip that around and say that Inglis only looks so good at rep level because he has JT on the inside putting him into space.

You may be right except I think Inglis at center stops the defensive line from compressing( more then any other player) so the gaps on the inside are a little bit bigger

When JT "goes missing" he has an average game, when Ingli$ goes missing you wonder if he was even listed in the team

Souths play as a team, Parramatta play to one strength with ad-lib style structure not to dampen the Hayne argument but it's pretty much how I see it.

GI and Hayne never score similar tries because they are different players.

Over the last two years Inglis's ball playing has improved out of sight and seems to set more and more tries up rather going himself.

GI has brilliance that Hayne can't touch and Hayne has brilliance that GI doesn't match at times.

Just look at Inglis's 2nd brilliant try against the Broncos his attacking awareness in my opinion is second to none in the competition he just knows what to do and how to position himself like no other custodian in the NRL.

compare that to a brilliant Hayne Try

Jarryd's agility is crazy for such a big guy and obviously very strong and hard to stop like Inglis however I think their is more smarts to Inglis's game and maybe it just goes down to the coaching however for what the Rabbitohs need I wouldn't go past saying we have the best Fullback in the NRL.

Haynes playmaking is light years ahead of inglis. Compare line break assists over the past 5 years

Inglis only just converted from Centre three years ago and he's had to share ball with other real go to players when Hayne gets enough ball he is bound to execute a try assist or two

Outsider view. Inglis is a freak and probably the best physical specimen of a rugby league player ever produced. Also has the smarts.
Hayne has carried a club and a state on his shoulders for over half a decade.

I'd vote for Hayne but christ this is the golden age of fullbacks.
Lockyer,Mini,Slater,Inglis,Hayne all have claims.

hes been a center for most of his career, that happens playing there, especailly under the styles hes played.

3 years at fb though Souths have finished no worse then the penultimate week.
