 There are some wind up merchants on this forum arent there?

Greg Inglis is a great centre and I would rate him as the best I have seen since I came here in 1995.

Not sure I would call him the best player in the World, because that's too difficult to really state for sure. But I would rate him in the top three and he'd be the first Centre I'd pick in my "best in NRL" side.

The knockers.

Came into grade @ 18 since then his team has made 4 Grand Finals, winning two (CC winner 2007).

After scoring 37 tries in one season for Norths Devils in QLD cup.

The origin team he plays for wins 4 in row - him being rep player of the year 2008 and 2009 + plus scored 8 tries in 10 games

For Australia has scored 13 tries in 12 games, also a certainty and one the first to be picked unless injuried.

So at 22
4 GFs 2 wins, 97 games 66 tries
10 SoO games - 8 tries
12 tests - 13 tries

Speak to any player about Greg and you get the word "freak".

Continues to prove to be the player of his generation.

lol @ the knockers

Can't be put any better.

There is always debate when looking at 'the best player in the world' in any given sport though. Jarryd Hayne was playing at such a level during this season that he deservedly wore the title IMO. Hell, there was no one better for a period than Soward (haters can disagree, his stats and form confirm he was).

The usual suspects: Greg Inglis, Johnathan Thurston, Billy Slater, Cameron Smith and now Jarryd Hayne will always be thereabouts at the moment when looking for a worthy 'title holder'.

You could make arugments for all of them to a point, if someone wanted to go with Greg Inglis - a freak and from where I sit, the best chance of becoming a future Immortal of the current crop - I wouldn't argue.

I guess when looking at a definitive answer, we need to account for: current form, consitency over a prolonged period, ability to make those around him beetter and performance in big games.

Have to agree with all you said and the above is a pretty good way of judging a "best" player.

But at the end of the day, it's all subjective and what one person sees as highly important another might not rate at all.

Look at Steve Price for example. A tireless workhorse, who inspires those around him and does amazing amounts of work building a platform for the backs in his team. If you take State of Origin as an example, Queenslands record without him is much worse than it is when he plays, yet you rarely if ever hear him being mentioned as a "best in the World" player.

Inglis is so talented he would make it in soccer if he wanted.

The biggest freak I've seen athletically on a footy field.

Mr Angry, you're talking like you were proved right, but when was Inglis the best player in the world or "of his generation"?

The "Slater/Smith/Thurston/Inglis" generation has run for the last 8 years now and I've got Greg 4th in that group when discussing impact over that time.

Best in the world right now is probably Inglis' direct competitor, the slightly younger Jarryd Hayne- and that's not for the first time in their respective careers. Years from now people will still be arguing Hayne was better (the multiple Dally M's don't hurt).

I think you'll have a very hard time establishing that Inglis became the clear best player in the world like you said he would. He has only occasionally been regarded as such over the course of his career.

Thurston is a 1000x better footballer than Ingli$. Given he plays a more involved position, but I can't remember him ever going missing in a game.

Well, I will not argue with Hayne, he is the closest.

Jarryd is his only true rival @ rep level.

I would argue Greg is the standout at rep level over the 8 years, and he can take a team from close to true contender.

The fact Jarryd or Greg can play anywhere from 1-6 and still be the best player in the team does make them stand above the others you mention. Maybe not to you, but does to me

Slater is over rated, very good player, but has many limitations.

Thurston is a great halfback, but lack of premierships holds him back, it is not like the rest of team is crap, he has had the two Aussie front rowers.

Smith, best hooker of his generation.

It is not an argument, it is my opinion, feel free to disagree.
