He has never been a glory hunter. His comment after his field goal, just highlights that.

March 29, 2008 IN the end it wasn't the match winner, but it was every bit as good.
Eels captain Nathan Cayless, more renowned for his brute force than his finesse, landed the first field goal of his career to send the Eels game against Newcastle at Parramatta Stadium into extra time.
From there, full-back Luke Burt finished the job, potting a field goal of his own four minutes into golden point time to kill off the courageous Knights.

Cayless, who made his debut for the club in 1997, stunned the 15,000-strong crowd when he coolly slotted the one-pointer with his left foot to level the scores with under three minutes remaining in regulation time.

"I hit it nicely. There wasn't much time to go. I just kicked it," Cayless said.

Not sure that is true.

I f**king hope not.

I did say it was a rumour, though. Hearsay tells me the board (surprise, surprise) wanted to clean out the "old" players with the "old" mentality and I am informed that even Hindy's name was mentioned - until Ando and Ossie told them to get f**ked.

It's all what I have heard, and from a disgruntled former employee. So take from that what you will.

But for what it's worth, I've heard it from others around the trap, too. It certainly may explain a few things about this year...

I started supporting the team fulltime around the McCracken-Pay-Dymock-Smith era of the mid to late 90's. However there has only ever been one captain of Parramatta to me and that's Nathan Cayless. He has been in FG for this team for as long as I can remember supporting him and as long as I can remember games. HJ, I follow your sentiments, there is only one captain of Parramatta and that's Nathan Cayless. It's going to be so strange not seeing him out there next year, we'll miss you Caylo!!

Nope. Everyone else would just be a temporary captain. Honoured? Absolutely.

But Cayless is THE Parramatta Captain. Not just the longest serving Parra captain. Not just the longest serving one club captain. The longest serving captain in the history of rugby league. No one will ever give the leadership to rugby league that Cayless has, let alone to this Club.

maybe they should retire the no.8 jersey as well .

there are some fantastic pics on this thread ,keep them coming ,fantastic tribute to caylo and i hope he has some kind of involvement in the club somewhere .

Thanks! It was the best place to be, it seemed. Plus, the banner wouldn't have even been made without you and Rowdy helping me!

I see Pricey & Sledge, and start thinking - Geez im getting old. I was 10 when Parra won their first comp, 15 at the last comp, and next year 40! Surely, if god has any compassion for my hair loss, I can witness our team standing on the victory dais - once more.

I would have loved to have seen Caylo lift the trophy. Hindy's time is running out.

6 months until I have to consider Ashley & Martin again, at least.
