And this pommy prick has the hide to call me a troll.

On a thread about the quality of Gus gould as a club manager and as usual your contribution is abusive childish name calling, derailment of topic area and adding nothing to the discussion of the thread. Sounds like a troll to me.

Memberships have grown by a huge margin and our football team is ready to win competitions. What more do you want from Gus?

It means nothing if the crowds ain't up, winning team should see a increase in crowds. With it being 'heartland' there no excuses if there winning for Panther supporters to show up for once. Out of the West Sydney teams, Penrith is always the weak link. Eels/Bulldogs easily get better crowds/members and a peak West Tigers can easily outdraw anything Penrith can do at there very peak.

Of course memberships mean something, merkins paid for them! Crowds are an issue but they will grow this year im sure of it.

I don't get the fascination with big crowds. The big bucks are from TV, I don't think 9 or Fox get a hard on when the full house sign goes up. Some people prefer to watch the game on TV. Deal with it.

Rugby league must be the only sport it which subpar crowds are considered ok because of the TV. Any other sport would put crowds as the higher priority as it looks great on the tv and the club benefit from the large crowds.

Clubs can't rely on TV money forever, it's up to the admin to get people through the gate. It's a handout at this rate with the bad financial situation of some clubs due to poor crowds. Bad crowds mean bad financials which is harder for clubs to break even let alone profit for once. For any NRL club to coast on TV money is just plain lazy.

Rows of empty seats week in/week out is a bad look for the game's 'heartland' and to the casual viewer would think RL isn't a top code.

Clubs can earn more money from crowds than tv deals. Of course they matter!

he knows he's on a winner at Penrith due to western Sydney and beyond being on the rise, government investment etc. The fact is you need money coming from somewhere. what has he done? Put the club shop where more people have to walk through it, better relations with the community, well yeah, but that takes time and investment. Penrith did win the Premiership in 2003. And quite frankly were lucky last year with the draw and facing a Sydney (ha) side on the downward spiral, they won't go as well this year.

Panther followers can at least expect a competitive team now for the next few years. Consistent performances should improve the attendances. Hopefully like Parra we can build crowds with regular finals appearances.

Then why are you reading this thread? lol
I'm not talking about if crowds could be better, of course they should be, but the fact they have dropped under Gus's reign. Not a great sign of a guru turning the club around.

Crowds dropped due to not a single Sat night or Sunday game. Throw in a wet game v Souths. No WT at home and that's why the average was what is was. No one is saying the crowds were good last year.

We made a profit with 'rubbish crowds'. Memberships are 20% up on this time last year. Given a much favourable draw no reason we can't average 15k. We are back developing test players and winning comps like we should be

Love this Panthers hate much better then the pity we usually get

We have only ever made the finals 2 years straight. Get a stretch of being a decent team and people will come and watch

Crowds dropped off as Penrif ridded themselves of some big contracts. They sort of tanked for a couple of years, although back half of 2013 it started to look like they were on the way. Then a very impressive 2014 onfield should hopefully flow into a strong 2015 on and off the field.

I think Gould has done an excellent job thus far. Penrith have had big seasons before. 03/04 they were strong, 2010 they were good, but it was never built on. Mediocrity would follow, so the spike in crowds died just as quickly. They seem to have a much better system in place that can deliver long term success, which builds greater fan support and, with that, you would hope more and more would stick around in the tougher times.

PR is looking at one aspect that has not (yet) showed improvement and ignoring alot of other stuff that Gould has brought to Penrith.

Gould definitely deserves some criticism for his media role, he's agenda driven like few others and his commentary can be painful. He certainly knows rugby league though.

Actually your crowds were up last year on the previous two years! All hail Gus, oh hang on they are still lower than the years prior to him taking over. I do like his free hot dogs though :)

Is there an actual point that you're trying to make?

not really but it is more fun that talking about afl guernseys in RL nines.

He has done a good job getting memberships up and seems to have some plans around improving the ground which is all good. Crowds need to be better but at least they have stopped falling and hopefully last years increase will continue this year.

Well while everyone had a good luck at his infamous 5 year plan Gus has nailed it so far.I don't think crowd increased would have been a goal in the first two years. He came to a club that had been poor on and off the field for 4 decades and then promised 2-4 years of pain. Hardly compelling for potential attendees. Crowds want to go and see their team win. Now that that part othe puzzle seems to be in place I would expect the crowd piece to be a real goal.

In saying that I don't expect miracles. He is a football genius but not a commercial and marketing genius. Could be that Penrith get in a more business minded head after Gus who builds on the solid football foundation Penrith now have and drive the club forward from a commercial perspective.

I think the only genius at Penrith is Ivan Cleary. He's just continuing on from where he left at the Warriors.

Gould is the bloke who convinced Jamie Packer to bank roll them.

Packer has invested in the Panther's new entertainment and sporting precinct. The facility will include training facilities for Crown. You mentioned earlier that Packer wants his money back. Do you have a source ?
