Gus has built a future for us. He focused on junior development which resulted in us winning NYC in 2013, NSW cup in 2014 and having a ridiculously stacked roster where we can lose 10 players and still be competitive.

he brought Cleary to the club knowing he was the coach for the job. Gus 5 year plan is to build a club that will regularly be successful, rather then one who achieves instant success and is destabilised afterwards.

He wants to set Panthers up so that he is irrelevant. He is doing the job properly. We were f**ked before he came here and would likely not even have a team now if we didn't get him. We are now profitable, successful and should be able to maintain it with the things he has done for us.

Cleary has been responsible for our first grade team, but Gus is the man signing the people we need in the positions we need them. His intention is for the right people to be involved with the club and for him to be able to leave and have us kick on without him. Else we would be back where we started once his job was done.

not really but it is more fun that talking about afl guernseys in RL nines.

He has done a good job getting memberships up and seems to have some plans around improving the ground which is all good. Crowds need to be better but at least they have stopped falling and hopefully last years increase will continue this year.

At Penrith 15k ave is achievable given Bathurst doesn't hold that much & our 2nd game is TBA will bring the average down. They do give a new market to sell stuff & memberships etc. You can't expect fans to fight through traffic & rush to eat cold chips & overpriced beer. To watch a bunch of guys thrown together. Especially given our history. Last year with the juniors coming through makes that different

Glad to see your club heading back in the right direction mate.

No doubt Gus has done a wonderful job.

Very well said MX.

Anyway Gould was at bathurst recently talking to kids at a panthers clinic. Good to see he will still go out and see the youngsters.

What he has done for the Panthers is great.

He just needs to use his unique position of influence, more than any other coach, commentator or administrator, to promote the game not deride it.

Suggest and push for changes, not constantly moan. Setting up a special school for midgets isn't a serious solution.

It's not Gus' job to blow smoke up our arses. His constant criticism of Penrith has annoyed the crap out of us for two decades, but deep down we knew he was right.
If he is ever in the position to make changes to the game as a whole, I'm sure he won't just talk about it. Meanwhile, he's as entitled to an opinion as you and I.

He often offers his idea for solutions to go along with his moaning. Just because you dont like his ideas doesnt mean he didnt offer them.

If Jabba does nothing else except pioneering feeder clubs west of the Bluey's that's good enough for me

Penrith I think are due to go out there two more times this season so hopefully we can continue and build on that over the next few years.

Our opinion counts for shit though, and influences no-one. His the most influential club administrator in the game, people hang on his every word. He is largely responsible for the current thinking that A) the game is boring B) Refereeing is easy, and they are worse than ever and C) Every rule that he doesn't like should be abolished (unless it happens to favour his current club)

By being a senior club administrator and having a public mouthpiece greater than anyone in the game, means he has the ability to make changes.

He complains about the boring nature of the game, why not try something different at Penrith, to demonstrate what he considers exciting?

Penrith by rights should be one of the powerhouses of RL.
1. Biggest Jnr nursery in the world
2. Biggest pokie empire behind them
3. No club within 35kms+ of them

Only thing they lack really is a world class stadium, oh and fans. Souths have shown that with a bit of investment and some decent management (and a sleeping fanbase) you can turn a pile of dung into a massive NRL success. How much unrealised potential do Penrith have and can they realise it without being unrealistic about winning the comp every year?

A is coming from a lot more people then just Gould. It doesnt take a genius to see how similar every team has been playing and how boring it is watching guys wrestle for 15-20 seconds every tackle. I agree that his criticism of the refs has become counter productive but do you think it is Gould who is influencing the NRL coaches to blow up at them? Because the refs get pasted every week by numerous coaches, not just Gould.

Not many, if any, sports in the world have their most senior broadcaster partner call the game boring every week. That's not helping our code. That's actively hurting it.

Maybe it's time for Phil to retire from this role, as he clearly doesn't enjoy the game anymore, just the politics and back room stuff.

That's a pretty clear sign you've not got nothing more to add to the discussion.

Seriously, name me a sport commentator that actively and regularly is negative about his sport.
