Haha, the trutth sucks doesn't it? Great that they increased their membership and good that their crowds got up above 11k last year but if Gus is this super guru that can turn clubs around then getting the crowd to pre his take over numbers would be in his favour.

The crowds will return. Last year we copped a terrible run of bad weather that coincided with most home games.

The times are against you ol' mate, too many things for people to do because social media has made planning obsolete, no time to waste preparing for a day out at the footy when 80 minutes in front of a screen will suffice

Nevertheless, crowds should improve this season. Last year I recall at least 2 total wash-outs and lost count of the Monday night games. It's no excuse though considering the population of the area. No-ones saying the job's complete. A least the potential is there.

Cowboys were more than willing to change. In fact if memory serves, they had gone through some administrative changes which is why they were looking to bring Gould in a as a consultant.

Gould helped them perform a season review, saw what they were dealing with and washed his hands of them. Told them he couldn't help them from Sydney.

A wise move from Gussy but also shows me that like all of us, he has his limitations.

As for Bennett, the only reason he didn't sign with the Cowboys is because of Tallis. Big Gordie had it out for Bennett because he wanted to retire after his neck injury but Bennett convinced him to play on until 2004. After that, Bennett distanced himself from Gordie to concentrate on footy and the Raging Bull felt used.

Unfortunately the Cowboys felt the brunt of it.

Then Bennett signed & won a premiership with Gorden most hated team, St George.

Not meaning to take this thread off topic. But not enough emphasis can be put on how awesome this is on the Karma scales.

That's the case with all clubs. I will say this. A club survey was done last year 80% of members preferred Sat night games. 90% Sunday games.... We got 0 of either!!

So of course the crowds will be done. Brisbane, NQ, GC and Melbourne on Monday nights. Souths and Canberra games being played in rain... All don't help the crowds. A much better draw this year after a successful year really is no excuse not to improve the crowds

poor crowds, poor memberships, small fanbase, unwillingness to travel, average sponsorships.

yeah, they're a real blueprint for the tigers, titans and warriors to follow.

He was comparing manly to the panthers, not the broncos. Just hilarious. Panthers crowds are woeful and their stadium isn't much better than brookie.
If Manly was only 3 times as successful as the panthers all their fans would disown them.

typical whinging manly fan

You're right. What manly needs after 5 decades at or near the top is for Gus Gould to come in for one year and fix the place up. They're doing it all wrong.

Haha, wtf have penrith done ?
Made the prelims one year in a row.

Penrith??? Thread of the year

Not everyone can win at once. If he went to the spooners and waves his magic wand and made them a success...someone would take their spot at the bottom.

8 teams have to finish in the bottom 8 every year. Even if all 16 teams had Gus's wisdom, there's still be 8 teams missing out on September.

Some peoples are looking over their shoulder at old Penrith. That prelim has certainly shaken folk.

There's no magic wand BM. We simply needed a manager with the balls to unlock the club's huge potential. His influence wouldn't have so dramatic with other clubs.
The myth of the sleeping giant is actually not a myth.

And stop hating us people. In 20 years time we'll be supplying most of your teams players (if your team still exists ).

By the way, Penrith fans didn't start this thread.

He is a genius, he took a team with a 12,000 plus crowd down to 10k then builds them back to 12k and everyone lauds him as a saviour. Now that is genius!

 You're clueless Perth Red. I know it's hard for you to take that the Sharks aren't going to fail, but this latest angle of yours is laughable.

We acknowledge that the crowds could be better. I can't really be bothered arguing with you about Gus.

Then why are you reading this thread? lol
I'm not talking about if crowds could be better, of course they should be, but the fact they have dropped under Gus's reign. Not a great sign of a guru turning the club around.
