Why is there only one pub in the entire Shire that is acceptable for young people?

Does anyone on here know about the transfer of liquor licences between locations?

What would be required to shut down an underperforming hotel, in say, Sutherland or Mortdale (just as examples) and relocate, using that licence and the pokie licences, to Cronulla?

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAA

I can just see it now..

Rightio you Mortdalians, if you don't start drinkin more piss we're gonna take the pub off ya's!

I'd rather eat my own shyte than go to Northies.

I have never been to a more pretentious, souless and militarised drinking establishment in all my life.

You young merkins missed the real Northies...before the rebuild.
Upstairs for a root
Downstairs for a fight....simple.

Gymea is a top little place.
The pub will be great...I'm there.[/QUOTE]

I 2nd, 3rd and fourth that.

I just bought a place in Cronulla and it sh*ts me to tears that there isnt a decent pub in the joint.

I have tried to frequent..

Northies sports bar
Sting
2230
The Bowling Club
The RSL
JDs
Sharkies
and the Bar at El Sol Mexican.

And they all suck. For various reasons, but its mainly the clientele.

Ill hit up the outdoor bit at Northies sports bar for a bit of Thirsty Thursdays action, but im sorely, sorely disappointed at the state of drinking in Cronulla.

Funny story, I was walking along that section between Mango Jam and the front bar at Northies, late one weekend night and I was pissed off. I was scratching my nose and some dirty trollop was like "Picking your nose, very classy".

So then I DID pick my nose. I stuck my finger right up there, rolled a booger and flicked it straight at her hipster face.

I went home after that.

Ive been looking at buying in Gymea for the last 2 months Carch. I can't wait to get there and sink my teeth into a decent Pub, then stagger over the ever disgraceful deathtrap that is the Big V before rolling home.

King,

With regards to liquor licenses. Areas are split up into differt accords. For example Cronulla falls under the Miranda Accord which encompasses, Cronulla to Miranda incl Taren Point. Then Sutherland Accord runs from Gymea to Sutherland and includes Engadine and Menai areas.
There is a huge variety of types of liquor licenses. The amount and mix of these licenses that are allowed in each area is governed by council and the local police.
At the moment there is a blanket cap on 'on premise' licenses in the Miranda accord.
This is the type of license needed to operate a hotel. Thus we are stuck with only one pub in Cronulla, and a shiit one at that which barely qualifies as a pub in my books.
The reason for the cap is due to alcohol related crime (ARC), this ranges from kids getting pissed and knocking over letter boxes on their way home to full scale fights and riots ala Dec 11 2005. An unfortunate inclusion in this ARC group is that if someone were to get on the pizz at Cronulla and then go home to their place in West Pennant Hills and beat up his missus. A black mark goes against the Cronulla area and licensed venue for being the last place said person drank before committing this ARC (it is little wonder that licensees in pubs and clubs are becoming more proactive in ejecting people for miniscule indescretions these days).
The riots certainly didn't help our cause but neither do the little fugwits that think its cool to jump on peoples cars when they're walking home pizzed. Unfortunately, until there is a serious drop in ARC in the local area, there will be no new pubs going up.

and no... licences cannot be transferred from area to area.

pokie licenses can cant they?

& the main reason there is alcohol related crime in Miranda is because of Northies.

Alcohol, gambling & newsagencies ae nothing more than organised crime & or protected markets.

Free the markets up!!

Gymea Pub re-opening will be a blessing. Keep all the youngsters out of the Vinyl Room where they've taken over. Less competition for us oldies looking to bang your Mums.

I'm with you Reefy. My rant wasn't supposed to sound as if I was against it. Was just trying to shed some light in the whole subject.

Pokie entitlements (individual license that each machine must hold) can be traded in a block of 2, current going rate is around $70k for a block of 2 for a Club and somewhere between $200k and $300k for a block of 2 for a hotel. The license that allows one to buy entitlements cannot be traded.

For a Pub or Club to conduct any form of Gaming they must have a Gaming License as a part of their Liquor License. Once this Gaming License has be acquired the venue must have an entitlement for each pokie (gaming) machine on the premises, thus if a venue has 26 machines it must have 26 entitlements.

I don't thnk Juan goes to the Vinyal Room, as it is a bit far from where he lives, i.e Queensland. Whereas I do as I have no shame when it comes to a bit of Mum flap.

I fail to comprehend this hatred towards the finest waterhole in all of Sydney.

Security isn't too bad if you're not a clown, girls are all ways attractive, the beers are cold (albeit slightly expensive, but who gives), and the dancefloor is always an option (although probably not the best as I have found out many a time). What more could one want in a pub? To top it off, its only a short stroll from the Shire's premier nightspot (2 Rooms 2 Worlds) and from world class international cuisine such as Gilles, Handi Gandi or Tarkan's.

Gymea pub offers you what? No late night feeds (unless you enjoy an Aussie Hero), a dodgy crowd no doubt (can anyone else see the Hunters lowies frequenting this place) and a high probability of later in the evening being bundled up by a 35 y.o. single mother of 3 who had a few too many at a staff party.

We've all seen the demise of Coyts over the past 5 years, I fail to see this joint firing. And what's more, I fail to see the criticism of everyone's favourite beachside boozer being justifiable.
