Magical day, incredible atmosphere, voice is shredded will take a while to believe it actually happened.

Matt Ryan taking photos and signing autographs an hour after the final whistle. Legend.

Yeah, Timmah told me about my tweet appearing on the screen. Kinda expecting to cop abuse from Wanderers fans now :sarcasm:

What did your tweet say?

I'm still in a mild state of disbelief that one of the Mariners' goals was from a penalty...

If you put yourself in a position to be successful for long enough you eventually will be. Congrats @CCMariners! #ALeagueGF

Think it was that one.

thought it was never gonna end, couldn't wait for the final whistle

well done to both teams, not just Mariners but you'd have to say that the Wanderers had a pretty successful debut season

This was my first game of football.
The atmosphere of a packed pub at fox studio's was insane.
I sat on the edge of the "Yellow Army" and had an absolute ball!
The train ride back to the coast was a blast with a full carriage singing all the way home.
Gotta say the Wanderers fans were good sports all day, they sure do make some noise!

Wow just wow just WOW.

Best day. Loved every minute, the tension, the atmosphere all amazing. There were things I wasn't impressed with but now isn't the time.

Well done to the Wanderers on an amazing season... but WE ARE CHAMPIONS :D

A few interesting facts - the Wanderers last loss was to Central Coast also 2-0, way back around New Years'. And the Mariners goalscorers were 38 and 36 y.o. respectively.

Being the nark I am - I thought McBreen scored both on Jan 6?

Was talking about yesterday. Probably didn't make it clear that I was referring to different games.

Would've been spooky though if both games had the same goalscorers and scorelines.

True. If I'm not mistaken, McBreen is the highest goalscorer against WSW with 3.

Congrats to Timmah and CCM. Very well deserved after so many near misses.

WSW badly missed Hersi. Still, a great season and what a ride it was. Can't wait for next year.

Have to say the CCM fans were mostly superb from where I was sitting. Loudest I've ever seen them and most were good sports too.

Yesterday's result was the best possible one for crowds next season. WSW was always going to improve to an average of 16k-17k whether they won or not, but if CCM had lost they'd have stayed at 9k.

With the weight of a championship behind them, they should at least improve to 12k (fingers crossed).

Can't believe the FFA didn't lobby the AFC to move the game to Wednesday night. Mind you with the amount of adrenalin and sheer joy, they probably won't feel much fatigue.

Wow, another great result tonight for CCM.

Given the circumstances I reckon it's the greatest ever win by an Australian club abroad.

Bloody impressive showing from the Mariners tonight. A two day turnaround and no chance to celebrate their Grand Final win in style, yet they turn up and clinch a 1-0 win against quality opposition abroad. Well in, lads.

Anybody read Sebastian Hasset's article in the SMH today? Paints a somewhat worrying picture for the Mariners' hopes of a defense.

Before anything else, and the machinations of what happens next are picked apart, take time to stop and think about what Sunday's grand final victory means for Central Coast.
It is a massive accomplishment for the A-League's smallest and most under-resourced club. While the underdog narrative has been told ad infinitum, it finally gets told with a happy ending. They've triumphed on the smell of an oily rag.
Heading into the game, it certainly felt like a now-or-never moment, as all knew their window of opportunity was closing. They just had to deliver, and ultimately did did so, with calculated measure of professionalism.

Where to from here? Daniel McBreen and Trent Sainsbury rejoice with Mariners fans at the final whistle. Could it be the last hurrah for the champions? Photo: Brendan Esposito
As the A-League continues to evolve, and clubs figure out winning formulas, those with money will have more opportunities for silverware than those who don't. They'll invest in the best coaches, trainers, facilities and so on.

In between that transition, however, Arnold sniffed an opportunity to use Central Coast as his own private greenhouse. With total control over the squad, he created a bespoke football operation.
He did it with smarts, not money. Yet while intelligence will always have its place, replicating such deeds in the future is about to become infinitely harder.
Although under contract with Central Coast, Arnold is ready for change. It's nothing against the club, but having conquered Kosciuszko, he's looking for his own Everest, both in terms of a challenge and a pay day. No one can begrudge him either.
It's the same scenario for Mat Ryan, Bernie Ibini and Trent Sainsbury. They're off to Europe, initially for trials but almost certainly for good.
Expect some Asian clubs to lodge big offers for Michael McGlinchey. Would anyone be surprised if a Middle Eastern club offered Daniel McBreen a one-year deal that could set him up financially?
That's why it's worth enjoying this moment a little longer. By the time they restock with new players, and perhaps a new manager, other clubs may be forging ahead.
No way will the competition sit idly by once more as the Mariners plunder Australia's best juniors, nor will a manager like "Arnie" fall into their lap.
It's not doomsday. It's just the challenge they face. Perhaps they could make life for the Wanderers a little tricky by poaching Wanderers assistant coach Ante Milicic from under Tony Popovic's wing. That would be a statement of intent.
As for the Wanderers, the mood around the team hotel in Darling Harbour on Monday morning best summed up their predicament. Down, but not devastated.
"It's a little easier this morning than last night, to be honest. Although we were disappointed after the game, I did tell the players I was immensely proud of them and what they've done, even if the pain was fresh from defeat," Popovic said. "As the week goes on, I'm sure we can reflect further and it will become easier for me. When we get together with the players on Wednesday for our debrief, we'll go through the whole season and show where we've improved from where we started. All the players have improved individually and, as a team, we've improved collectively throughout the year."
Besides, they've got so much to look forward to. This season was special for pushing the boat in uncharted waters. Next season, they get to put the sails up with a clear plan. Imagine what they can manage with a real preparation.
"It's disappointing because grand finals aren't easy to come by and you don't know when they will come again. So you want to cherish the moment when you're there. It hurts, but we'll do everything we can to try and rectify that next year."
No one doubts his word. Having something to chase is a great source of motivation. Just ask the Mariners.

What a 48 hours. Fantastic performance. Considering the circumstances.

Incredible depth to be able to throw Wee Mac on with 10 to go.
