The irony of Greenberg booting Buzz and Jones
Alan Jones coached Balmain and Souths to poor seasons, having done well at another sport. He has no connection to this game and it is quite bizarre he was considered for such a panel in the first place. You might as well have Gina Rinehart. Having said that it is a measure of Greenberg that he has seconded himself onto this panel completely without qualifications. I could have lived witrh Rothfield, he has been around the game all his life.

Why are they naming 5

This is what was said on the TV broadcast, and in the article I quoted in my earlier post -

"Dally Messenger, Dave Brown and Frank Burge, pioneers of the premiership's early days in Australia, were granted Immortal status by a panel that consisted of current Immortals Wally Lewis, Bob Fulton and Andrew Johns, along with Broncos coach Wayne Bennett, Phil Gould, Ray Warren, Steve Crawley and former Rugby League Week editors Ian Heads and Norm Tasker.

"The judges took the view that this was a one-off opportunity to recognise the past, to recognise three players from the pre-war era who became legends of the game," NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said.

"If the panel did not take this step we could have lost our chance to include these champion players among our Immortals.

"It was an opportunity the game could not afford to miss and the Immortals now reflect the full history of rugby league – from 1908 to the present." "

Hope that helps you.
