also, take hindy out of the game and we lose 2nite.
people from other teams bag the guy, but if he was qlder, he'd be picked every year for origin.

Agree yy_cheng, the halves didn't do anything spectacular but they were solid and didn't do much wrong either. I think they are performing well above their 2010 form and if they keep up tonight's effort or, better yet, keep improving then they won't be as huge a worry as they have been.

and they key is can they do this week in week out.

History says no but for Parra's sake, they'd better.

It's similar to Souths.

The halves did fine. Robson stepped up when the games was there to be won.

Mortimer did some good stuff.

Edge defence is still a bigger concern.

Well dome mk. Still think he holds the ballroom long when going sideways, but both dummy halves gave the halves much more time by putting pressure on and playing nice and flat and fast.

Without doubt, I dont care who is there I would have a backrow of Hindy, Gallen and Lewis with Bird and Watmough off the bench (Bird the utility).

On the halves I thought they player very well and controlled the game. Mortz looked to take control a bit in attack and threw a beauty to Burt while Robson was very good in getting quick service and his running game troubled the cowboys all night. MK was also a good highlight, some very good runs and Mitchell didnt look to bad himself but definatly needs more time off the bench before you could consider him.

Our kicking game all night was generally good, Mortz put in a good long kick as did Robson while Hayne played like a fullback and was pretty good in keeping the cowboys guessing, he was very unlucky to drop that ball over the line IMO (great tackle from bowan).

Our forwards won us the match thou, if they can do that week in week out then we will be well served. Hindy and Mannah lead from the front, shakelton, Lasalo and Webb all played very well IMO.

That cut-out pass by Mortimer was great, I don't think I've seen him do that, like, ever. Not a good thing that he hasn't done it before but very good that he is obviously learning and improving.

Robson I thought was very good.

It was a cutout to Reddy who caught and passed to Burt.

There has been improvement based on the structure. We haven't scored heaps of points in recent weeks but we have been in better position to do so and have had a good number of tries disallowed. The baseic structire is there. The forwards need to aim up and the dummy half needs to get a good roll on through that area and the halves will have the room they need which is what happened in the first half of the first week and for times in last weeks game as well.

Changing that structure after a handful of games is not the answer.

Colonel, again you hit the nail on the head.
After watching Robbo & Morts tonight your appraisal is correct.
The structure is starting to work better.
Give the boys another 4 to 6 weeks and we should see our team become a serious contender for the top 8.
And they won this game not relying on Hayne, what a huge turnaround this is.
Full credit goes to SK & Arthur's.
To think what will happen when the structure works well and Hayne is on fire, scores of 30+ will happen.

speaking of halves, in the off-season we were looking at throwing mega-bucks to get Orford back from England.
Canberra beat us to it, and on his form in the first few rounds, we might have dodged a massive bullet.

Honest to god i sat their thinking ok so now Mortimer pass to hayne... and WHAT THE!!
I seriously doubted my eyes, it was a great face ball to cut out a backrower and Hayne and not something anyone was expecting. Later on on the match Mortimer did well to give hayne the ball with room to move.

Mortimer also kicked the ball 50 meters of Ash Grahams head, he improved so much in that match considering his first 3 games this year. If he can produce that sort of performance consistantly then he will hold down the number 6 position for a while. Robson played very well but I think we still need to look for a new halfback long term but atm he is good enough (would be nice if Bruest or Murray could step up long term, place a lot less pressure on hayne in the kicking deparment)

Yeah, Orford was fairly ordinary again tonight.
Great win by the Tits, another example of never giving up and seeing the fruit.

Agreed, he actually makes Robson look effective, can't see Raiders getting any value out of his 2 year contract.

I protested loudly that we don't sign him and I'm sure glad we didn't.
Let's just get soem players signed up for next season, we have a lot to spend when you consider we'e under the cap and some players are on 1 year deals

Will just prolong Sam Williams playing 1st grade. I sure wish he hadn't re-signed. he would have been a good pickup

Kearney has made two very good decisons already and he's only been here for a few months, first one is telling Tahu to hit the bricks and secondly saying no to Orford.

I thought MK had a real good game tonight. He gave very good service tonight. He controlled the forwards very well.

There was a lot more playing the second man tonight from our attack. It looked a lot more dangerous.

The final try from the Robson kick was also to the opposite side that Hayne was running to. This is another good sign. The ball is no longer following Hayne.

ONe more interesting thing. Fairly late in the game when the Cowboys were attacking our line, Hayne played on Burt's wing and Burt went to fullback. A few plays later Hayne and Reddy pulled off the held up on the big Cowboys centre or winger. I don't think Burt could have done this. Not sure if it was intentional or its just how it happened..

So who plays fullback if Hayne plays 6?

Outside of possibly Marmin Barba who had a great game the previous week in NYC the rest of the backline is struggling for form and we have no real standouts in the NSW Cup or NYC.

McGuire could play at half yet we weaken the dummy half role which as we have seen is probably the most important position on the field at the moment to get right as it allows the forwards to move over the advantage line and gives the halves room to move. IF Mitchell and Keating find some form it would be worth a try but it is yet a big IF and we have to worry about that first before we even worry about moving McGuire who is injured.

The only two positions that we have something going for the team, when McGuire is fit, are 1 and 9 so we move those two players to different positions to strengthen another area?

It isn't rocket science but if you sit back and look at the whole picture you too would realise that.

there is a guy in our team who has had some experience at Fullback....his name is umm, err, oh let me think.....err Luke Burt???? i think that's his name :sarcasm:

and we have a plethora of wing options, Uiasele, Walker, Hicks, Whatuira, Atkins etc

and most people would surely have to admit that Keating was closer to being back to his best form last night. I thought Mitchell was 50/50 when he played, but Robson is another option at Hooker and has played well there in the past

mind you, it is obvious after last night that Hayne is actually playing the 5/8 role a lot of the time anyway, just without 6 on his back, as a lot of the time, Morts is playing first receiver and gives it on to Hayne as second receiver, while sometimes on the right Robson slots in at first receiver or just bobs around filling in at dummy half etc.....

so that might have to just do for the time being...

Mate..... I still disagree with any moves as they showed last night why the forwards and the hooker have to do their job first. They aimed up, Keating played his best game in two years and the halves had the room they needed.

Our defence let us down at times not our attack....

I thought our edge defence is a little sus but tonight IMO they defended well. Outside of the first try you can put any of the other tries down to bad defence, the second try was pure luck after the ball came off our players pressuring JTs kicking and Thompson luckily running on to it. the thrid try they spread the ball wide deep in their own half and they found us short on the edges which is common amoung every team as they compress and try to keep teams in their half and their last try was Tonga beating Shak one on one, a poor miss by shak but the numbers were there and 9/10 times that stuff should be stopped.
