Happy St George's Day

I have been following them for nearly 60 years.
I think there should be a special RedV membership for all of us that have followed for 50+ years.

The mind boggles when I think about the $$$$ spent with merchandise and going games over the years with our family. Money well spent by the way.

I started at 4yo when I started school accross the road from Jubilee Oval, had parents and teachers at the school as players with St George then (not all FG) I probably became fanatical at about 7 or 8 shedding tears when we'd lose a big game. Haha, not much has changed !!!

Happy Dragons day to the whole St George Illawarra family.

That would be nice.

But as you know, 50+ years ago there was no Red V membership. If you were a keen Saints supporter, you paid your membership to the Leagues Club (plus the Football Club if you could). You went the game, and waited to buy your tickets on the day like everyone else.

I still have my father's St George Leagues Club key badges from the 1960s, he was one of the founding members of the Leagues Club in 1963. I was only a toddler, but I am sure that was the year I became a supporter. I suspect there are many similar stories here.

But I don't think the Red V membership acknowledges all that sort of stuff.

I let my Red V membership lapse this year and am currently just paying at the gate with my mates, like I have done so many times before. According to Red V website, this means I've lost my chance to be listed as a loyal supporter. All those years and memories for naught. I'm shattered. lol.

Yes, many similar stories mate. My earliest memories always had something to do with St George.
My dad still has the old badges that were carried with pride on the key ring, along with the Kingswood and Torana car keys.

It's a reall shame the RedV membership don't do something for the 50+ supporters, I'm not suggesting anything that wouldn't be profitable but something that might recognise lifetime loyalty and generate some more profits and loyalty.

I just came to the same realisation. I've been following this lot for more than half of the entire history in first grade. We might have to put a bit of pressure on the Club to do a proper 100 year celebration.

With the number of posts you've made, it is quite possible that you already are a Centurion!

It would be nice if the club was to ask the fans what type of jersey style could be offered up to celebrate the 100 years.

Good effort yourself Blood Shot Eyes. Well I've recently turned 60 and I've been following them ever since 1957 if you come right down to it. So my quoting 54 years as a follower seemed a fair estimate. I can still remember the disbelief at that loss to Canterbury in 1967!
Yes me to mate....bloody Kevin Ryan...still havnt forgiven him lol

Remember a sad St Georges day in 1967. We played Penrith at Penrith and i was there . Although it was Penriths first year but they beat us comprehensively. It was one year too many for ageing legends Poppa Clay & Ian Walsh . The beginning of the end for us.

Also remember the final that year. Got home from 2 weeks holiday with relatives to find out my dog of 10 years was put down and then had to deal with the end of our 11 year run. Just about the worst day of my life !

I also remember that day at Penrith very well, the drive up there with mum & dad which seemed to take forever and dad talking about how we were gonna give it to these upstarts.
Needless to say it was a long, long drive home and very silent as well.
Always sad when you lose a good friend and as my dad always used to say "the more I see of people the more I love my dog."

For the record if you are actually fully observant of all religious matters today is actually St George's day due to the rules about when it falls on a Sunday during lent, advent and all that Catholic stuff.
So happy St Georges's Day to one & all even if I am partially a Welsh derivative.

Yes me to mate....bloody Kevin Ryan...still havnt forgiven him lol
Ryan actually wanted to stay but Facer forced the issue as he thought with Beath coming to the club and Wittenberg sitting out a season to come to the club we could live with out Kandos.
Of course there was also a bit of argy bargy around captaincy with Walsh post Sticks retirement.
Not one of fearless' better decisions.
