Hasler to coach in 2018

No more than any evidence to suggest the opposite to what you keep suggesting.
If McGregor is not replaced, there will be rioting in the streets.
Even our board would accept that.

I suppose JB that the same question can apply here too.

What evidence is there to prove McGregor will be sacked or even replaced, other than "internet" talk?

IN fact the board has publically endorsed McGregor stating "He has a bright future as an NRL coach"......take that as you may and it can be read in many ways both positive and negative.

If McGregor is re-signed yes there will be howls of protest etc, but the board will do what every board, company or management do. and that is ride the wave. A good example of this is Banks when they raise interest rates, everyone screams blue murder, but in the end they (the public) just follow what's there. The same applies here, announce McGregor, ride the wave, and then season starts and we all fall in line because we support our team not the coach. Again, it explains why membership #'s haven't plunged this year even after announcing that McGregor would coach in 2017.

We all want McGregor gone, including me, but until the club calls something like an "emergency" meeting to discuss the HC, it will always be want not fact.

My question is if Mary made the 8 this year or better , would everyone be happy to keep him on ? A No from me .... We need a change either way .
If you ask me, I don't want Mary here for 8 games in 2017, let alone making the finals - 26 games.

The only top 8 Mary will make is, the top 8 incompetent coaches of all time & he is odds on to win it

Just watched McWreckers preview for Panthers match. I believe his odds for the above award have gone deeper in the red.
A total fool.IMO Had another swipe at JD, this guy is pathetic

I just watched 'the tries' on fox 502. Under Bennett we played some very exciting football with well constructed backline movements which ended in tries.

B Morris was a gem and really should never have been let go. For the money he was asking, all was needed was to play him at fullback. Mary has really a lot to answer for. In my opinion he will go down in history as being the Dragons worst coach ever.

They would accept that. They wouldn't care, because we are all mindless lemmings who will pay our memberships and cheer the team on regardless of whatever failed or incompetent decisions they make as they laugh at the peasants and our pathetic, failed attempts at prying some sort of competency or accountability out of them.

But they would accept it.

Seeing Sean O'Connors name in a press release really killed my afternoon.

Possum I agree and I never thought I'd see a worse coach than Craig Young until Steve Price came along. Mary McWreckor has trumped these two by a furlong to take that prize and hold that title forever in Dragons History.
You mean ex Players who never left the confines of the Club, also turn out to be poor coaches...

A stat was mentioned today Roy masters was our first ever in the clubs history a coach that had never played for the club as a ex player.Shows that the club needs to change and hire quality coaches no more jobs for the boys.

Well, if this Hasler not coming thing is true, then it has to be Cleary. He would be the only coach out there who could realistically join us that i'd be happy with.

Based on the reaction, I highly doubt we have even approached Des

I wouldn't be surprised if there's no deal yet. I can't recall when a sports team in any sport has announced their coach 1 year in advance (because they are sacking their existing coach at end of the season that hasn't begun yet) and it's turned out well for all parties involved.

The club would have a shortlist in mind but I don't think any formal interviews or selection process would've begun.

Also, how would that look to McGregor? A complete de-motivator. Now I expect most people to say he can't coach and I'd agree he shouldn't be our coach any longer, however at the end of the day he has this year left and like any business they need to support their manager/coach while a positive (slim as it might be) result is still possible rather than undermining him and then seeing even worse results and potentially backlash from the players too.

However if you let's say announce a new coach 10rounds in and results aren't there, players, especially those off contract all of a sudden start playing better as they are potentially playing to impress a new coach and get a new contract.

Either way, I'll still hope for Cleary!

Happened when Des initially joined the Dogs. Signed for the 2013 season shortly after he won the comp with Manly in 2011. He was then booted by Manly and took up the Dogs a year early. Unless something dramatically changes however, he won't be coaching us next year. We will likely have Dean Young or Ben Hornby in charge. Matthew Head I am sure is the other option the board will look at in their exhaustive recruitment process.

yes it happened.. but really he had signed for the 2013 season, he then got sacked straight away and ended up there in 2012, this isn't the off-season and can't see a repeat of that. Would've been a different situation if this happened back in November. Not announcing a new coach in around 1 of a new season. I think we have to take the emotion out of it and be realistic, can't see a coaching announcement for at least 2-3 months. We can hope.. but as OT said wishful thinking isn't the answer.

Indeed. Just saying a precedent had been set prior. With all emotion out of it, I don't expect an announcement on who will be our coach until September. I am sure we will most definitely know who it isn't well before then though (Mary, Des, Cleary).
