Is that like when we deluded to Mary?Maybe Kevin Walters as someone eluded to...
100% this. What has Walters done as a coach that makes people think he's a good fit? what's the justification?Yes, let's hope Saints appoint their third straight coach with NO NRL experience.
Sigh.
Walters is a good option. Was assistant to Bellyache which is gives him the foundations and making of a good coach.
That is true, but then you also have Paul Green was an assistant to Bennett, Madge Maguire was an assistant to Bellamy, Shane Flannaghan was an assistant to Sticky and Trent Robinson was an assistant to Brian Smith.Stephen Kearney was an assistant to Bellamy. Steve Price was an assistant to Wayne Bennett. Being an assistant coach to a good head coach doesn't count for anything.
I also (begrudgingly as a NSW fan) admired his tough stance on those who broke curfew in the emerging Maroons squad in literally his first few months in the job. That showed he demands players be accountable and have discipline.I think Walters would be ideal for the Dragons next coach. He's biggest attribute is he knows ATTACK and the actual teaching and training halves on how to be creative.
We already have a decent forward pack....our Halves and tactics are our weakness.
The reunion of Hunt and Walters together again will fix our chronic problem.
Add an injection of youth and speed into our backline and Happy Days.
I never thought Hasler was ever coming due to his cost alone.....Ivan Cleary is the hot tip to be Manly bound once Barrett is sacked and the de-throwning of Emperor Fulton occurs.
I also feel the strong relationship between Mark Coyne and Kevin Walters will have considerable bearing. He has strong reputation with players thru Origin and his experience at both Storm and Broncos as attack coach.
As far as management are concerned, he'll be the cheapest option with the right credentials to replace McJetski.
If the Club is broke then it can't throw enough money at a guy like Hasler. And Hasler would bring his own staff - the Old boys culture would need to step aside - too many people would lose their jobs! That is true, but then you also have Paul Green was an assistant to Bennett, Madge Maguire was an assistant to Bellamy, Shane Flannaghan was an assistant to Sticky and Trent Robinson was an assistant to Brian Smith.
All 4 of these blokes went onto win premierships. A good apprenticeship certainly helps.
Mary, Young and Hornby all lack this essential training.
Hasler won't be coming..
Sounds like he has re-signed at the dogs but they can't announce it as they haven't won a game yet this season.. which is quite funny.

lol. A dual-premiership winning coach who has made 12 finals series in a row including a couple more grand finals.Good.
When you consider the size of salary of those managing this new system - Doust and Millward's team of old boys who have never been held for accountable for bad decisions e.g. retention of Bird - The hiring of a top grade coach may not be so expensive. The NFL style structure St George are supposedly putting in place would seem to indicate that an established first grade coach will not be signed. Most of the "good" coaches would not be happy losing control of recruitment, training etc.
The structure being pushed would seem to mean "rookie" or borderline first grade coach is on the cards. The model described is the cheapest structure the club can adopt, this also seems to indicate the coach will not be a "name" and will be cheap.
