Have we ever had this conundrum in the history of the club?

Actually, we miss Ennis, Lewis and Maloney. Any one of those guys was so professional and hated losing. Always competing.

Gallen is like that too but doesn't seem to be able to drag the rest with him like he used to. Fifita is like that every now and then.

Someone needs to be able to fire them up, before the half time spray.

Riddle me this. We have an absolutely gun team on paper- completely underperforming.

Graham, Dugan, Johnson, Moylan, Fifita and Woods are out and out hyped superstars of our game.

Nikora and Xerri are pencilled in as future rep superstars.

Gallen and Morris have a tonne of rep experience.

If you were to allocate a dollar value to every player based on their achievements, a la supercoach, you can make a good argument that this is the best team (on paper) we have ever had. Yet we are middling.

Traditionally when we have done well it was on the back of plenty of local juniors and a couple of guns. The 2016 squad one upped that and were team took a bunch of unfashionable rejects and moneyball style players like Leutele and Beale and Ennis who gave maximum bang for your buck.

I cannot remember a squad like this for the Sharks- and despite all the talent in the world it feels like we are destined to be frustrated.

A team of champions perhaps?

Footnote- for those saying throw Kyle back in- it was him who said he wanted out and now has the bottom lip out deluxe. Doesn't want to be here. Think the world owes him a favour.

1. Mistakes are killing this sides chances big time. Where’s the worst place to make a mistake? In your own half. Moylan & Dugan are dropping balls from bombs, General play kicks every game. I have lost count how many of those have led to tries the following set to the opposition.

Incidentally they are the two players I despise in this team as they are mentally weak. If they make a mistake get your wallet out and bet they’ll make another because 9 times out of 10 you are sure to be right. On a side note Moylan is not a fullback anymore. Dugan can’t play there either as he’s too slow. One of the most important positions in a team these days and we have a stop gap fullback.

2. Slow starts are killing us. My take on it. Our starting props. Prior now has no effect in bending the line. Zero. Fifita runs too sideways and looks for the offload too much. The best thing in the opening 20minutes a Prop can do for the team is run hard and STRAIGHT with a quick play the ball. We are getting zero momentum in the first 20mins of games. When Uele comes on we get that momentum and when Woods was fit he was giving us the same momentum.

3. No decent goal kicker. Our best goal kicker is Flanno but he isn’t our best half. (Oh and I picked up earlier on this that the kid is a little upstart with his attitude. The fact he wanted to go to the Roosters mid season tells me a lot about his character. ) We have now lost the last two matches despite scoring more tries. Horrible statistic.

4. Attitude. Way too much flair plays. Need to put the body on the line more and play what’s in front of them. Sometimes a simple short ball is all that is required to break a defence open up the middle or on an edge.

5. We lack speed in the backs. The fact that not one of our backline players caught up to Williams when he made that break yesterday was telling. The bloke in support was Braden Uele! A prop. Yet Montoya and Remis Smith tackled him. Now if they caught up with Williams why didn’t any of our outside backs catch up with him?

Despite this I do think we can get our shyte together and make a run. But I do think we lack the mental edge to beat the Storm and Roosters in the end of season. Games.

Problem is Flanno left us with Moylan ( who has one good game in 5) getting $800K Dugan ( who plays only 16 games a year at best) getting $900K and Johnson (who has under performed all his career) on $800K and there was a reason no one else wanted them and the sheer arrogance of get them to the sharks well make better players of them......... funny that Moylan played SOO with penrith Johnson was a golden boot at the warriors and dugan is dugan

Also we have 0 from 2 with our so called stars
We were going better without them

Agree with just about all the points. All cordon bleu chefs ,wanting to run the kitchen at the Waldorf.
Can someone please remember when on field, it's a TEAM not a parade of champions, with the look at me sign emblazoned on their bodies.
Don't try to score off every pass, settle down to get a feel of the match, learn to kick where the seagulls are not to the fullback who responds with a thank you ,who proceeds to gain half the ground the kick was supposed to take away, and have reliable back up goal kickers, support the pill holder.
We are at the a*se end of the eight and look like it.

It's not Bomber's fault, the players need to watch a video of this game, every night till the donkey's match, they may then get the message.

That game yesterday i said n another thread hurt more than any in recent history, i remember we used to win those games when no one gave us a chance.

The team needs to click the funny thing is, that if we click we win the comp, i believe we finish 5-8 we still win it, the only game that would concern me is week 1, if we are tipped by all to win, but after that weeks 2-4 i believe we would go on run and win it all, i could be insane and have been told that here before but get through week 1 of finals i say we win it all

Hahahaha

Talk about over reacting from the responders here.

Worry about it in a fortnight after Broncs/Storm

Xerri and Nikora need a rest.

You ARE insane. Total nut job

However I almost agree with your post. I’m not ready to call on a comp win yet though.

Confirms what I wrote to one of the important forum members yesterday.

They have somehow combined the 2017 arrogance team bit then thrown in some malcolms (all fizz, no substance to quote paul keating) whilst losing a bit of the hard edge

I don't think it is over reacting really. It was shitty in performance attitude care factor skills

The contenders win those games

I wonder whether Gallen's influence is waning. He was the epitome of Flanno ball. Fight for everything and get over your opponent. Win on guts and effort over talent.

This team needed to move on from Flanno ball to reinvent itself as an attacking force.

Sladdens comment regarding arrogance from 2017 are pertinent. It was clear last year that they did not have the desperation from 2016.

This loss highlighted the issues that have been building for 2 and a half years. There appears to some serious rust in this side despite having enormous talent.

Well yes it seems Gallen's seat at the selection table has been taken by Josh (no wing policy) Dugan.

Duganball.

We are complacent against average teams like Dogs and Titans.

Broncos game might be dangerous too.

We only ever do enough to win, it seems to be the way we play.

Perhaps that’s the key to surviving a long season!

& if we could kick our goals in the last 2 games, we get the job done then too & are sitting pretty in equal 2nd.
