Hayne and Lewis charged. Slater cleared

He is bad defensively because of his positioning on kicks. He reads them poorly and costs his team yardage on almost every set because of it

I'm not debating that it's the strongest part of his game ... but clearly his other contributions far outweigh that weakness.

He ran for almo0st 300m against the Storm and Cronk and Smith found the grass often with their kicks.

did you see Slater on Friday night?

Funny, because I was commenting on Hayne not Slater.

... But let's also ignore the fact Slater has been in form for a few years - unlike the last 8 weeks of '09 with Hayne...

If he could handle the defensive workload he has a real future as a 5/8. He basically plays in that position in attack alot but plays fullback in defence.

He could be like a superior version of Felate MyPotato after he goes to the Warriors

He stands too deep defensively at fullback and with kicks he is very lazy in covering field position. Funnily enough Phil Gould was saying the exact same thing last week on the Sunday Roast - but no, no. Hayne is god!

Once you get out of the media lovefest, and watch the games you will see he is not the messiah they proclaim. Dugan is a better fullback, and more consistant.

But I'm sure the rest of the Parramatta side appreciate you putting their defensive record all as a result of Jarryd Hayne...

You didn't attack his positioning for kicks ... you specifically attacked his defensive positioning - singling out his play on the wing.

Yet the Eels' defensive record in 2010 doesn't support that argument in terms of his play at fullback.

You're the one saying that NSW is better off with Hayne not in it (and even the Eels by implication) ... I'd love to see you back that up.

Do you have anything else Gould told you to believe that you want to present as your personal opinion?

Daniel Anderson agreed with you at the start of 2009 ... sadly it just didn't work out. And it wasn't defence that was the problem. Hayne is a strong defender generally (although he did a poor job of staying on his man in Origin 1 ... I think he was too eager to put on some hits and he's clearly not the smartest player going around). The problem was his involvement was too structured. He needs the freedom to be where he thinks he needs to be and the ability to play on instinct without trying to organise the players around him.

Many people believe he might end up being a 5/8 eventually. I don't have an opinion one way or the other at this stage.

So I guessing when receiving a kick from the opposition you don't defend the kick? OK that's definitely news.

Eel's defensive record speaks for the Eels defence. Not Jarryd Hayne's.

I am definitely saying the NSW would be better off with Hayne not in it. Hayne lacks composure - thus his 'no look sideline passes' and the headbutt - and that is needed in games like State of Origin.

I usually don't agree with Gould, and I had this opinion prior to Gould - but like any argument you use supportive evidence. Since the general consensus on this forum is that Gould has a good grasp of the reading of the game he is a good source to use.

But it's ok, continue with the Hayne lovefest. I'm looking forward to his next 8 good games.

Hopefully NSW pick Luke Lewis and hope that he beats the charge. IMO he's a good chance at beating it. But if he fails, atleast he won't be missing Origin 1 AND a Panthers game. Would be BS if he missed both.

Wrong. If picked for Origin, he is automatically ineligible for the Panthers game. A suspension does not change this. If he does not beat the charge, he will miss both games.

But if Nathan Friend escaped charge for a far worse tackle where he also dropped his forearm into the back of Dugan's head after he hit the ground (not to mention a high tackle and a king hit at other stages of the game), I can see no reason why Lewis shouldn't get off.

Funny that he has a habit of that - pretty much ruined a potential try for NSW in Game I because of his magic 'no look pass over the sideline' move.

Haha. I can recall two such passes this year. I remember a lot more that hit the mark and directly contributed to tries and line breaks. His success rate is pretty high.

Anyway, they say you should never argue with an idiot does he will just drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience ... on that note I'm washing my hands of you.

Good luck trying to find 10 people who agree with your ridiculous theory that NSW is better off with Hayne missing due to suspension.

We have a bye this weekend. If NSW pick him and he is unable to get off the charge, the game he misses is for NSW. If they don't select him and he is unable to get off the charge, he will miss the Panthers game against the Broncos in Round 15.
