Hayne at fullback for blues?

Gidley flirted with dummy half a bit last game, but seemed to get in the way more tan anything...

If that is the plan with Morris on the bench, then I fear we're going to get our arses whipped.

Shame Wing is injured, but if they want Gidley to take that role, they really should have him in 14, and give Morris the start, and have someone else be captain.

I agree, quite a few times he went to dummy half and did more harm than good. He is not a dummy half and if they use him that way we will be pumped.

The problem i can see is that normally they will take the starting hooker off and put him on for the final stages of the game. If that happens than Gidley goes back to fullback, who goes off? Do they take off a fairly fresh Morris or take off another outside back. Maybe they're worried Lyon wont make the 80 mins.

Maybe if the game is close with blues behind by a try in the last 10 or 20 or so they could bring Farah back on, Gildey back to full back and push Hayne to lock for his attack - he can tackle is big enough so shouldn't have any problem there and it would allow him to get any offloads from our forwards

It is alright but you made some glaring holes:

Swap the Morris's. Josh plays centres at club level and Brett plays wing. Also Brett has a combination with Matt Cooper.

Second, Hindmarsh captain? Eels talking there. He has barely captained at all. I would promote Bailey so he could be captain or maybe have co-captains: Bailey, Hindy and Farah.

Thirdly, the selectors will always put a newcastle player as captain. So don't count on Hayne being Fullback ;-)

Move Soward back to 5/8 and put Kimmorley into half-back (for experience, plus the fact that his absolutely killing it at the moment) and team looks good.

Another thing, I can't believe NSW is only playing 1 specialist prop off the bench!! Surely TLL would have been a much better option than Morris

i agree kidley will move at 60 minutes from fb to either hooker, lock or five-eighth, with trent possibly getting some time at lock himself,

I don't understand the anti-Gidley theme.

The bloke, along with Robbie Farah, has been the most dominant and consistent NSW player over the last 3 seasons of NRL.

He has started two Origins. Was close to MOM in game 3 last year and was players' player Game 1.

He has to play and has to play 80 minutes.

I agree he is not as effective at linking with his outside man from dummy half but he is a devastatating runner from there.

We have suffered in recent years by not playing the best players. For Farah to have only played one Origin is a farce.

I would have used Ennis as the 14 as he could be highly effective at 13 or playing Wing's role off the bench. Plus he is an ultra competitor.

Wind was good off the bench but when Farah was off the dummy halves din't link to the outside. Farah and Ennis are the best in the business at that.

Wallace is the bloke who is incredibly lucky to survive.

I am not anti-gidley and i agree he's one of our best and should be on the field as much as possible .... but he didn't go well in game 1 and his player's player award was, I think, a way to help life the captain's confidence

Wing? In the whole 15mins he played?

Hayne and Creagh were by far our best players with daylight second and the ref third.

Creagh was very good too.

Let's face it, Gidley never should have been captain in the first place. He is a fine player, but locking him into a starting position when there are other fullback options that are arguably better was foolish.

Gidley is very popular among selectors so he'll almost always get picked ... but for a player who has some value as a utility player, they've pigeon-holed him by putting the C next to his name.

I think the selectors should have been thinking about the captaincy issue last year to some extent. They never seem to think about the future.

Imagine if Farah played fromt he bench last year and was now heading into his fifth Origin instead of his second. I'm okay with Barrett's selection (should have been there in Game 1 as captain, in my opinion), but why pick Glenn Stewart on the bench when you could pick Campese on the bench to play a similar role and invest in his development.

With some hindsight, this is the team I would have selected ...

1. Gidley
2. Hayne
3. Jennings (Lyon for Game 2 due to injury)
4. Lyon (Cooper was just back from injury for Game 1 but back for Game 2)
5. Brett Morris
6. Barrett (c)
7. Wallace (he's drawing close to "never again" membership)
8. Kite
9. Farah
10. Weyman
11. Creagh
12. O'Donnell
13. Lewis (Gallen back for Game 2)

14. Campese
15. Poore
16. Bailey (Watmough for Game 2 due to injury with TLL tasked with more prop work)
17. Learoyd-Lahrs

They talk about investing in the future, but then contradict themselves with their decisions.

I love Hindy and he definitely deserves to be there, but for the sake of the future ... the above backrowers need to be developed at Origin level. The real joke was when the likes of Fitzgibbon and Simpson were getting selected ahead of him. Stupid.

In a similar way, I also feel sorry for Preston Campbell ... he really deserved a go by now. His opportunity is probably past, but it would have been good to see.

If Soward maintains form into next year, then I reckon it'll be time to throw him the 14 jumper and give him a taste. If Barrett is still good to go, it could be 6. Campese, 7. Barrett and 14. Soward. In fact, there were worse options than doing that this year ... Wallace is running out of time.

Hayne and Creagh were by far our best players with daylight second and the ref third.

Creagh is someone I forgot and played very well but IMO wallace and campese didnt use him well after 20min mark, he should be on the left flank running at lockyer all game.

Hayne, Jennings and Wing were the only other players that looked dangerous IMO. Wing spark the blues when he came on and then Farah started to play better when he saw what wing was doing.

I would have had

Hayne
Morris
Cooper
Lyon
Williams
Barrett
Wallace
Weyman
Farah
Poore
ODonnold (capt) - better than Gallen IMO
Creigh
Gallen

Gidley (wing to come for game 3)
Waterhouse
Kite
Hindmarsh(play prop/secondrower)

Gidley did alright and did look dangerous but IMO he buckled under preasure and that should not happen to the captain and fullback of the team.
