Melbourne halfback Cooper Cronk and Parramatta back-rower Nathan Hindmarsh have been rewarded for their grand final heroics with selection in Australia's 24-man squad for the Four Nations rugby league tournament.
Cronk has edged out Gold Coast captain Scott Prince for the back-up halfback spot behind Johnathan Thurston after creating two of Melbourne's four tries in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Eels on Sunday.
Coach Tim Sheens and selectors opted for Wests Tigers hooker Robie Farah ahead of Bulldogs rake Michael Ennis as the second-choice No.9 behind Storm skipper Cameron Smith.
Canberra forward David Shillington is the bolter in the squad, while Storm prop Brett White has also received a call-up.
The Kangaroos depart in two weeks the prestigious tour of Britain and France.
Absolutely stoked for Hindy.
Will Sheens allow Hayne the freedom to insert himself at will like DA has? Or will he need to play a more structured game?
I reckon structured.
Hayne is a great ball runner. With Cronk and Lockyer setting him up, you will see is brilliant running game come afore.
In the GF, he was trying to be the playmaker and forgot a bit about his running game. i.e. bursting onto a pass off mateo, et al.
However, he will be playing wing which will limit his opportunities
It will be a good experience for him. Gives him more insight on structured play.
Furthermore, hope he bunks with Lockyer. A great fullback who transitioned to a great 5/8th and hope he learns HEAPS from him.
my prediction for the 2010 australian squad (just parramatta players)
Jarryd Hayne
Justin Poore
Daniel Mortimer
Joel Reddy
Nathan Hindmarsh
I love international footy, cant wait. Good on Hindy, would love to see Hayne at fullback though.
Andrew Johns played the bulk of his early Kangaroos career at hooker before he got a crack at his preferred position. Hayne's time at fullback will come.
That was largely due to Chris Andersons love for Brett Kimmorley.
lets get one thing straight here, hindmarsh was picked for the australian team on form, not a sympathy vote ,his 62 takle 11 hit-ups helped his cause a little.
